New Series 3 Lightweight.

Good Evening,

I’ve recently purchased this beauty:
6B17D1BA-E303-405A-8E53-16E59A43A100.jpeg

I’m keen to learn more of its history. Below is a direct extraction from the ‘Merlin’ database. As you can see some are self-explanatory (although feel free to add anything relevant). The internet has brought up conflicting results so If you know the location of the following units at the stated date I’d be grateful - thank you.

9/1989 - 57 LOG SP SQN VEH TP RLC

4/1992 - 152 RLC

12/1992 - 2 RRF

6/1994 - 1 STAFFORDS

3/1996 - 1 GG

7/1996 - JSU CYRPUS

12/1996 - DSU

6/1997 - 1 GG

First things first.

Check the oil.

None on the drive = none in the engine. Or front axle. Or gearbox. Or tracta joints. Or back axle.

Apart from that - splendid machine!!!

I’ve done all that and she’s in fine form.

She’s in good nick, got a 200TDI fitted too which whilst noisy in the cab pulls like a train!

I can tell
You it’s not taxed.

I know, it’s going through an MOT and then tax (just the motions for the tax though) and it’s always good to get an MOT anyway. That said it’s exempt both.

Very nice indeed, OP.

There is/was one of those on RetroRides (or Pissed-On Heads) with a Rover T Series 16v Turbo in it. 200BHP.

My series 2a has a 200tdi.

For the upgrade to work properly and not eat parts of the drive train, you ideally need beefier diffs from a Range Rover, overdrive, and freewheeling hubs.

With regards to sound proofing I’ve lined the engine side of the bulkhead, gearbox tunnel and under the bonnet with stick on soundproofing dynamat type stuff.

The UJ door cards are actually door mats made out of quite thick carpet. They also help to deaden rattles and vibrations.

It’s still loud but definitely makes it a bit more bearable.

Enjoy.

She’s lovely, do you have a link for the soundproofing you used, the stuff I’ve seen online seems to be silly money.
