Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. The Royal Navy's new anthem, as dictated by SDSR 2010:

    Come, cheer up, my lads, 'Its not all bad we hear,
    They'll add something more to this pitiful year;
    To harbour we call you, as freemen not slaves,
    For all will be scrapped which will float on the waves!

    Hearts of oak were our ships, jolly tars were our men,
    we'll sometimes be ready; Steady, boys, steady!
    We'll fight and we'll conquer never again.

    We ne'er see the French but we wish their ships to stay,
    They always see us and they wish us away;
    If they run, we will follow, we'll ask them somemore,
    And if they won't help, we can do no more.

    Hearts of oak were our ships, jolly tars were our men,
    we'll sometimes be ready; Steady, boys, steady!
    We'll fight and we'll conquer never again.

    They swear they'll invade us, these non-existant foes,
    They'll frighten our women, our leaders and beaus,
    But should their flat bottoms in darkness get o'er,
    No Britons they'll find to receive them on shore.

    Hearts of oak were our ships, jolly tars were our men,
    we'll sometimes be ready; Steady, boys, steady!
    We'll fight and we'll conquer never again.

    Britannia in tatters, her ships on the bottom of the sea,
    Her standard is Justice—her watchword, 'not me!'
    Then cheer up, my lads, with one heart let us sing,
    Goodbye to Our soldiers, our sailors, our greatness and king.

    Hearts of oak were our ships, jolly tars were our men,
    we'll sometimes be ready; Steady, boys, steady!
    We'll fight and we'll conquer never again.

  2. It's been announced that, despite the cuts, a whole songbook of official marches and anthems will be bestowed on the Senior Service. Individual branches and even flag officers will have their own march for the first time.
