The heart of the site is the forum area, including:
Who should run RMCS?
CGS, do you need responses of 10,000 words or something?
Wouldn't you rather have reciprocal arrangements with Bath Uni (fit young fillies with liberal attitudes.....).
Now something tells me that the nearest you ever got to 10k words was the Harry potter book you received last Christmas!
You need some kind of academic institution so either Bath or Cranfield. Serco shouldn't be let near the academic side of things!
A good question, but you're behind the times: RMCS is now CMT (yes, what a dull name). Also, CMT is part of the Defence Academy and will be run by them - with changes to come there with a new Director soon.
There is a huge office dedicated to answering the question about the Academic Provider and they have some very high price help to do the analysis (Yep - consultant bonanza time). Their problem is that there are only two bidders, only one of which is other than CU.
Cranfield could be argued to have had too long at the job - 20 years breeds complacency. But there are risks in going with a new provider.
Anyway what is the AP going to do? All UG degrees have been contracted out, PG stuff is going DL or Part Time - so what sort of presence is required?
Suspect that the decision will be for the least worst option.
A better question would be what is the Defence Academy and what is it for?
At the moment it is a not very integrated collection of very independent establishments, with some very vested interests.
So it likely that there will be more of the same - whereas what it really needs is radical surgery.
There are hundreds of our brightest officers here (God knows what the capitation costs let alone opportunity costs are!) - so why not use them to do some research and anlysis?
Has anyone asked the students about their experience of the CU?
Oldandbold, if you re-read the original queston, you'll see that no judgement was made over the current changed setup, or the tendering process, and that it was framed as an open-to everyone poll, rather than as an explanation of the current situation. (As you suggest, no one has asked the students (customers?) so here is the chance...)
Maybe he question would have been better framed if the should had been in bold... ie, Who should run the RMCS. The hint that RMCS should stay may be implied, but should it?
You do raise another very good point, in that
This is the case in so many UK Defence orgainsations, such as the DPA and DLO, where things get pretty 'tribal' due to egos, territory etc. So what should be done to ensure a more cohesive DA?
Separate names with a comma.
