New recruits over 40yr old

#1
Having noticed that the age limit has been raised for some units, was wondering how many 40 yr old have actually joined up and what type of units they joined :?

We've had a few over 40s join recently. They've been mainly wanting to go for either REME VM or RLC Chef. The strangest part is some of them are putting in a better Risk Reduction Run time than some of the 20-30 year olds.

Or Int Corps, but we've had a few through and as you say, with better times than some of the younger recruits!

Tis true...There was a 47+ year old guy who got sub 10 min 30secs in our RTC bally good effort...There have been quite a few over 40's and yes their run times have been pretty good.

worst thing is you have to constantly remind yourself the hooks on your own arm have dissapeared, and the acne covered never-been-reg sprog telling you what to do is the boss. :p

dicipline for us 'ol "re-boots" at times can be a issue.

I'm 42 and i finished part 1c at Grantham last friday. My best RRR time is 11.25 and yes, i did beat quite a few of the younger recruits!

Oh and i'm in the Royal Engineers (Nationally recruited - used to be called specialist TA).

Not wishing to blow my own trumpet, but.....

I've joined CrabTA(RauxAF), because I was to old at 55 for TA, and have just started my Officer training.

We did IOTFA (initial Officer Training Fitness Assessment) at Cranwell at the weekend, and I did 1.5 miles in 10:19, 2 minutes of press ups - 42, 2 minutes of sit ups - 69. Well chuffed! :D :D

That put me 2nd o/a out of the group. Only beaten by the 29 yr old Regiment chap.

My roomy on the course is 51, and he was third o/a.

I'm with 15(UK) PsyOps, my mate is a surgeon
