Brian Paddick. Unelectable and unelected. A 3rd rate no mark with good PR. Can't get elected, get the Lords.

Nice also to see that Labour, whilst hacking at the Tories over their tobacco lobbyists, have nominate Menedelshon the lobbyist

I was amazed to read elsewhere that there's 755 of them sitting in the House of Lords. That's one big gravy train they have going there.

It's a pretty meh list to be honest. Any (sensible) ideas why Labour have appointed so few? Interesting to see the Greens getting a place too.

Bouillabaisse's description of Paddick, whose elevation was only a matter of time for the reasons listed, could just as easily have fitted Warsi's appointment or any number of others prior to that

Simialar case with Jeremy Purves; he lost an election after one term and is now a Lord?! We've got the most extraordinary form of democracy this side of Zimbabwe.

His wikipaedia page lists him as being a politician. I can't see anything in the text to justify that

•Rumi Verjee CBE - entrepreneur and philanthropist

This wouldn't be the same Rumi Verjee that has given the Lib Dems £770k in the last three years is it?

•Sir William Haughey OBE - prominent Scottish businessman and CEO of City Refrigeration Holdings

This wouldn't be the same Sir William Haughey that has given the Laboutr Party nearly £1m in the last thirteen years is it?

•Howard Leigh - senior corporate finance professional; Conservative Party Treasurer. Former Chairman and current President of Westminster Synagogue; former Trustee of Jewish Care and current Chairman of Jewish Care’s Business Group; Trustee of the Jerusalem Foundation in the UK.

This wouldn't be the same Howard Leighthat has given the Tory's nearly £38k in the last two years is it?

No, thought not

You're not suggesting that a peerage can be bought are you? Because that would be wrong.

So that's all right then!
Party leaders 'polluting' Parliament by giving peerages to biggest donors - Telegraph

A Conservative Party spokesman said that the party “totally refutes” any suggestion that rich donors had been rewarded with peerages.

Nick Clegg, the Liberal Democrat leader, said the new peers “will make a valuable contribution to British politics, the House of Lords and the Liberal Democrat team in Westminster".

A Labour spokesman said the party "totally refutes" allegations that that the peerages were linked to donations. "Doreen Lawrence demonstrates our commitment to bringing people into Parliament that deserve a voice," he said.

Boom-tish! There we have it Ladies and Gentlemen.

"Look everyone, We're not dodgy because we ennobled lovely Doreen and she's not given us a penny!"

The interestiongly point is how her conscience deals with this blatant politicising of her 'fame'. Will the penny drop or will she just play the game and be lavished over for life?

Plus she's a victim, a woman and black. Denise Bulger just missed out for being excessively caucasian I suspect.

Does the job come with a pension?

He did go for Mayor of London, but got beaten by Boris (PBUH)

Let me explain.

Take Portsmouth as an example.

One of these is a pier/peer which, with adequate funding, may remain a pier/peer and the other one is a Liberal Democrat MP who, following repeated trouser malfunction accusations, has not a chance of becoming a pier/peer.

Proof positive if any more were needed that our politicians are a total shower of shit, wholly removed from the day to day realities, conventions and standards that the rest of us are compelled through either a sense of altruism, fear of some form of punishment or opprobrium to abide by, which seems to completely escape them.

Nick Clegg in particular has proved once more what an utter failure and liar he is, by stating previously on record that he wished to halve the number of peers, and today he goes on to opine that the murder of a little boy by his shitcunt of a mother and her partner is somehow on all our consciences. The complete cretin.

Why do the liberals have an excessively high number of peers when they are the countries fourth most popular political, party?

Fucking parasitises we end up paying for make my fucking shit itch.
