So need a new pc, current novatech pc is 11 years old, running windows 7 & very slow.
Northbridge chipset has issues and usb ports at front stopped working recently.

Looked at novatech & pc specialist, any other good reliable to look at.
Base Unit only so Budget £700.

Already have Keyboard/Mouse/Speakers & Monitor

Get a MacAir laptop. I binned my PC and MS Windows and once you get used to Mac it's very good.

you not fancy building your own? it's easier than it looks.

I'm not gonna start another Mac v PC shit-sling contest. However, this VERY DAY a mate brought me his MacBook with a massively corrupted load. Nothing new in that, can happen to any computer.

Due to that f*****g Apple Store, or whatever the f**k they call it, he can't reinstall Office. He was even willing to pay for another sub to O365, just to make it work. Apple say no.

I lent him one of my newer Windows laptops, with Office 2019 standalone in the meantime, while I email him his Office documents from the CrapBook, 10MB at a time.

Nike: just do it. crApple: just f***ing DON'T.

+1. Not as cost-effective as it used to be, though. I built my own for two decades, then I discovered that Alienware would do it nearly as cheap, and with a warranty. No brainer.

Depends on your usage, if it's internetting, youtubing, office docs etc. rather than gaming or intensive media then a microPC is good value, I got a Gigabyte Brix added a hybrid 1Tb drive & 4Gb of memory for about another £80, installed W10 LTSB (Windows 10 without the crapware & spying), installed Firefox ESR, Office 2019, connected to existing screen and interfaces - good to go in less than two hours

ah, fair enough. my current machine was built at the end of 2014, although it has been stripped out, rebuilt and upgraded since then.

I'd still build my own unless the saving was huge tbh - that way I know exactly what's gone into it and how.

Agreed. Search eBay would be my advice. The keyword here is "bundle", eg, i73770K bundle. Insert CPU of your choice. Just make sure your PSU can kick it. I'm on a Akasa 1500W so storage heaters are all good here :D

However, if you're not just upgrading, I'd buy new. You get a warranty, and a right to be a pain in the ass to support.

The new MacAir is actually pretty decent...the last one was crap, for my purposes, hence why I still have a 2013 retina MBP. Even after I cracked my screen this year, I coughed up a ton of money to fix it rather than get a new one.

And I am still running MS Office package (word, excel etc.) which I got as an employee package for $9.99.

Are you gaming or Youtubing and Emails?

Web surfing, YouTube, office, music, 2d design, software development are all possible on a Raspberry Pi 4. Add a USB hard drive and you'll still get change from £150.

If all you want to do is simple browsing and general stuff, just get a Chromebook....brand new from about £150 to 250, depending on the model.

One more reason why there are 2+ billion PCs in the world.

Do you want to do some work?=PC
Do you want to piss about and look flash=Mac*

*make sure you have a PC somewhere to contribute something meaningful.

BS. Do you know how much work me and a ton of companies get done using Macs? And we don't have to restart the damn things every other day.

Yes. Yes I do. And NONE OF IT MATTERS. Seriously, **** RIGHT OFF. The grown ups are talking here. My firm designs stuff that goes whizzzzzz-target-bang. Macs are an embuggerance. I am PAID to make sure embuggerances don't happen.

Just a thought - check that his version of Office is compatible with Apples latest update aka Catalina (probably named after the Roman thug rather than the island).

Apple have moved OSX to 64 bit and it screws any old Ms Office versions. Not only that but the "error messages" appear to be deliberately misleading and try to get you to buy rent Office 365.

You can pick up Office 2016 cheap secondhand and it will run despite all sorts of dire warnings.

Done done and done. Cheers for the heads up, but it's not having it.

I appreciate you taking the time to post that. I just want to get my Glock...

Edited to add: It shouldn't be this difficult. And ISN'T, if you have a proper computer.
