New MAN trucks

#44
I put shiny new truck porn online and some people are never pleased. HLM will try harder to produce more extreme material as some people are clearly getting a little too comfortable with the normal run of the mill images!

Yeah but can you get any 'air' in these new fangled trucks?
Is this enough air for you?

No, thats obviously got a Platoon of lesbian RLC recruits seated in the back.
No just one Wedge and his ego!

Anyone able to say from up on high when TA RLC units will/should be getting these?
Is your regiment part of a Log Bde ? If not, it will be quite a while (possibly a few units for Fam Trng).

The rumours I've heard are:

1. TA RLC to bin MJ's and receive ex reg Leyland/DAF's
2. TA RLC to have MJ's fitted with power steering
3. TA RLC to receive MAN trucks in 2035ish

ps. I made the last one up myself but seems feasible.

Obviously, the DROPS wagons are suffering from age and may be replaced sooner with EPLS but that's still a long way off !

Things are probably looking quite good for the TA in this respect. On a recent WO CLM all the wallahs at DRLC went on about were trucks, trucks and more trucks.

(your not getting a replacement for Drops though).

All this drooling over trucking means that trades outside of driving don't get a second look.

When I asked what was being done to fix the AT trade, i received a look like i had shat in someones mouth and the answer revolved around trucks.

well im in the only TA tpt regt north of the border and its a DROPS sqn im in and obviously the problem with the DROPS at the moment is causing some annoyance.

Why are the drops not being replaced? i believe there is a MAN replacement ready or am i wrong?

MAN trucks fitted with Enhanced Palletised Load System (EPLS) are an Operational UOR.

It's probably what the army will replace DROPS with in the future.

PM 'CH5120'

He's a subject matter expert (probably knows a bit about F&L too :D ).

That, as far as im still aware, the entire fleet of DROPS is VOR apart from on operations.

Seemingly theres a lack of proper greasing during servicing or a mechanical problem thats causing the main propshaft to want to rip itself off the back of the transfer box.

Certain checks and complete greasing of all the propshafts are required before the vehicles can go on the road and this is after permission from brigade granted to take the vehicles out. After theses checks are done and permission is granted the window of operation is a week then the whole process has to start again.

And i believe it will be like this until a modification to sort the problem becomes available.

Again i could be completely off the mark and in which case could you bring me up to speed

We may well see the end of DROPS use in the UK much sooner than previously expected. With the operational drawdown in approx 3 years.

The crossmember problem being quite serious and not an easy fix.

However I fully expect DROPS to still be being patched up and sent out long after this 3 year period as it seems EPLS is going tits up, as well as numerous other 'teething problems' with SV.
