New Labour Leadership

According to GB News, Labour is now blaming the Tories for the relative failures of British athletes at the current Olympic games - For failing to 'build on the legacy of 2012'
I thought the very concept of winners and pursuit of excellence was anathema to Labour (well may be seen to support a football team as it is working class and now multi ethnic) and smacks of public, grammar and private schools?

Er… and how do they twig having 10 gold medals (more than in 2016 at this point) including the most successful GB& NI swim team in history, and clear success in the developing sport of BMX as ‘failure’?

Ot is it that the working class, diverse ‘eroes of rowing haven’t performed as well this time round that’s incurring their annoyance?

I don’t recall seeing any BAME rowers in the wee boats? Too elitist perhaps?

You'd think they could have recruited some of our latest newly imported tourists for the places.

Got that slightly wrong because I got my time differences mixed up. - relatively speaking, the UK was ahead yesterday, but we've (again relatively speaking) fallen behind today compared to 2016

However.... that's because there had been several medals in the cycling; two more medals in the gymnastics (Whitlock winning two medals in a day and Louis Smith getting a silver), while Andy Murray and Justin Rose had picked up golds in tennis and golf respectively.

And on top of that, the timetables were different...

By the end of Day 9 in 2016 the cycling team had been busy in the velodrome. Is suspect we won't win as many medals this time round, but the key point is that the track cycling hasn't started yet... By the end of day 9 in 2016, we'd won four cycling golds and one silver (Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner coming in 1-2 in the men's sprint).

By the end of Day 9, Mo Farah and Jess Ennis-Hill had won medals - Farah isn't competing and the heptathlon hasn't started yet (KJ-T being in with a decent medal chance for that).

So with the exception of not finding another Mo Farah (the sort of chap who comes along once every 30 years in UK athletics), the 'failures' have been in those yeoman working class sports of rowing, tennis and golf.

You couldn't make it up...

When you recall the TV comedians banging on about how the 2012 Olympics would be shit I hope the Labour types involved have sanitised their twitter feeds.

Apsana Begum: Labour MP cleared of fraudulent housing claims

Her defence was that she was the victim of a controlling relationship and a majority of the jury accepted it.

Hopefully there will be an investigation into the actual criminal and a prosecution.

In a different context I believe there should be laws that make it illegal to exercise control over an MP or other elected representatives. We should expect our elected representatives to act according to their consciences not what other people want them to do.

I thought the UK did well in 2012 apart from the embarrassment at the beginning and end. We are a country that used to do dignified ceremony. In 2012 we produced a jamboree that would have embarrassed the Kims.

Labour ate wittering on about shadowy business men giving donations to the Tories, lets face it you donate say 50K and you expect some thing in return, so Hilary Benn's 50K from Best for Britain Ltd must come with strings, could go on but they all receive donations, just some more than others.

The thing with Labour though its not donations its loans, £11,919605 to be precise, yep that's their outstanding loans, they are supposed to pay these back, not a chance. Always the same Socialists run on other peoples money.

If of course you accept the premis that a strong willed female MP could be led by the nose like that, then of course the controlling entity should be arrested and charged jointly with her. Any reason why that didn’t happen or was that down to police incompetence ( sic interference from above)?
Couldn’t be that Isthamul Hague ( sorry if the spelling is wrong) is intimately involved in the murkiness of Tower Hamlets. Stinks of pooh

Having people that were soviet spies as a leader of a political party should be banned as well, we don't want more Labour leaders like that

That’s democracy. People knew what he is and that’s what they wanted. Made his party unelectable which is a bonus.

She was found not guilty by a jury of her peers, so is innocent and available to restart life without a stain on her reputation. Well that is how it is supposed to work.

However, she has, IMO, shown that she is well up to the standards required of a Labour MP.

To be completely fair she did claim that she was unaware of the fraudulent claims that were made using her details.

whether the circumstances call into her question her fitness to be an MP I couldn’t judge without knowing more.

I don't like the result.

Can we have a retrial, please?

After all, there is now a precedent for having retrials where you don't like the not guilty verdict.
