[h=1]'Viable bomb' found under police officer's car in east Belfast[/h]

The device was found under a car in east Belfast.

It is understood a viable bomb has been found under a policeman's car in east Belfast.
Army bomb disposal officers have been called to deal with the device at the Upper Newtownards Road.
A number of houses in the area have been evacuated. The nearby Stormont Presbyterian Church has been opened for residents forced to leave their homes.

The Upper Newtownards Road has been closed to traffic between the Knock Road junction and Cabin Hill Park.

In recent years, there have been a number of attacks on officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), carried out by dissident republican paramilitary groups..
The SDLP's spokesperson on policing, Conall McDevitt, condemned the attack, describing it as a "cynical and deplorable act".

He said: "Those seeking to target police officers are undermining not only the stated will of the people of Ireland who have long since rejected violence, but also the desire for a new beginning for policing in the north, which is shared by the majority of citizens."

Mr McDevitt urged anyone with information about the attack to contact the PSNI.
Robin Newton from the DUP said the attack was an attempt to "murder".

"Those who placed this potential bomb have nothing to offer the community except heartache and sorrow," the East Belfast MLA said.

"I pay tribute to the PSNI officers and the bomb squad officers who risked their lives to make the area safe, not only for the intended victim but all who live in close proximity," Mr Newton said.

With the amount of known arrseholes we have on the books (ie those we let go under the GFA) can't we just start dragging these cnuts back in and waterboarding them until they start talking?

Give the poor fcukers who live in NI the chance at peace.

Upper Newtownards Road round Cabin Hill?

Only time anyone's ever got put out of that area is for making a social faux-pas at a golf club dinner.

At what point did the copper notice there was a UVIED? It's a strange place to park.

At least the No2 has configured his wheelbarrow properly. There was a time when operators were expected to place a manual weapon on UVIEDs. Madness.

"The bomb apparently fell off the car while it was being reversed out of his drive in east Belfast."

Oops, then the wheelbarrow is configured wrong.

It was bound to happen sooner rather than later... after all, the Continuity IRA were talking about killing cops only a few months back:

If that video is anything to go by, plod have been harrasing the **** out of them... and this could possibly be a response(?)
