Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Evening,

Can anyone tell me what a "verbal pen picture" is?

Course coming up, and notice the phrase is featured...
  2. Maybe a "brief outline description delivered orally", rather than scribbled on a piece of bog-roll?

My bosses often refer to my verbal pen picture when they talk about me. The problem is it only has 1 word. Cunt.
  4. Is it to "Draw a picture with words" ?

And remember to play "Buzzword Bingo" it sounds like you'll need it.
  5. It's very simple. It's a management phrase that means, "I have no idea what I'm doing or how I got to where I am but as I'm getting paid shitloads by other cretins who're equally baffled by their own success, I intend to keep riding the wave for as long as I can until we're found out and relegated to the morning shift at Burger King where our meagre talents will be stretched to full capacity".

There are a large number of synonyms in the management dictionary. Pretty much all of them, really.
  6. Much appreciated; thanks for the info!
  7. Whatever you do,dont refer to the course organiser as a Seagull.
  8. A course, eh? Then you need to use this - a vitall aide memoire for such career waypoints.
  9. Help. I prefer the good old days when it was all down to Shouting.
  10. A 'verbal pen picture' sounds like a contradiction in terms.

... or is it just me.
