New book on the SAS

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. There is a new book by Michael Asher, author of THE REAL BRAVO TWO ZERO, out on 1 November: THE REGIMENT.
Unlike any previous work on the SAS, THE REGIMENT is the first full history on this special force, with a focus on the men who developed the unit from its early days as a small raiding force to its staggering achievements as a counter-insurgency force.
As a former SAS soldier with connections to participants of all the regiments’ actions, Michael Asher has reconstructed, in vivid detail, the raids behind enemy lines in North Africa, the massacres in Italy and France, the terrifying guerrilla operations in the deepest jungle, the Iranian Embassy siege, the Falklands War, the Gulf War, etc. He also uncovers many of the myths surrounding the SAS and examines the real ideas that have made it the internationally famous special forces unit that it is today.

  5. yes - some years ago. His new boook reviewed this weekend is about mercenaries - usually a well researched, informed and responsible writer so may be worth a look

edited to add: do you work for Michael Asher's publisher, regiment?

  6. Im sure ken connor did as well....

  7. Product placement on ARRSE, eh? Wonder if 'regiment' will turn out to be a one post wonder, part of Asher's publicity squadron?

  8. yes - that was a well thought of book

  9. Who are you regiment? Do you work for the Publishers and trying to get a little extra publicity?

Or, are you Mr Asher himself?

Either way, shame on you for such an obviously obvious attempt at plugging your product.

  10. yes - that was a well thought of book - think it was called "Ghost Force"

  11. But this is also about the individuals behind the SAS - ‘Mad Mike’ Calvert, etc.
