Netanyahu quits over Gaza pullout

Israeli Finance Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has resigned from his post in protest against this month's planned withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Mr Netanyahu, a former prime minister, has been a fierce critic of the pullout plan championed by his Likud party rival, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

He threatened to resign last year unless the plan was put to a referendum but later lifted the ultimatum.

The cabinet was expected to approve the first phase of withdrawals on Sunday.
Good riddance. Now maybe they can get some cooler heads applied to this sensitive issue.
It did occur to me Dzerzhinskiey , but I think that path may be reliant on further resignations of hardliners. If Sharon can stop others from jumping ship it will isolate Netanyahu. However, don't disregard the support Netanyahu enjoys in certain communities outside Israel.
In a government of 'National Unity' you can expect ministers to be in and out like yo-yos. The fat man will make some concessions to Bibi as soon as he gets on a sticky wicket, he'll come back and it'll be hugs all round by Channukah.
