Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hi everyone, I have got inspirations from reading Shakespeare’s poetry and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle works and have some poems that I have written. There are many platforms on which I could place my poems but I want some suggestions from you people to help me know the places to present my poems.

Is this a wah ? If not, do what any other poet who wants to be published does.

    Enter competitions.

    Send your manuscript to publishers.

Send them to magazines that have poems in.

Send them to specialist poetry publications (journals etc).

Google on-line for poetry sites and put them on the sites.

Do all of that. If you are any good you might get lucky and get some stuff published. Even if you are any good, it is not a guarantee of success. Poetry is a very hard medium in which to be published and you will never make any real money out of it if that is your goal.

If your poetry is cr*p, you won't be published period.

Do not, whatever you do, be tempted to 'Vanity Publish' - generally these schemes are an absolute rip off.

    Good luck.

  3. There's one that immediately springs to mind, since I'm a member and never tire of reading new work :)

    www.forcespoetry.co.uk

It's an excellent website with the aim of becoming a proper charity and donating to service related charities... They are shortly about to launch a book of poems from it... Even got Dame Vera Lynn to write a foreword and attend the launch.

Let me know if you want more info.

    Sammers.

  4. Yes, as you said, there are many places on the net that can do justice to your work and help you to publicize your poetry but recently one of my friends has found a source that not only makes your work known but the members there add a touch of creativity to it. The community members combine the poems with audio, music, motion graphics and other elements to make your poem a visual poem . It is a different thing and I hope that you would love that.
