navy news

Do the RAF and the Army have their pwn version of navy news, I have not seen any in the shops other than independent magazines, and looking on the respective websites I have not seen anything mentioned on either.

so getting the group talking and I want to learn some more facts before I put my size 11 boot in my mouth again, other than the forces websites and of course google, any good magazine and websites that the forum can recommend for some good factual information?????

RAF News every fortnight (about 60p) and Soldier Magazine every month.

Soldier Magazine, better known as Pravda, too shiny to use as loo paper.

Soldier Magazine, for when you really need to know that everything in the army is wonderful. The letters page is always good for a laugh - every complaint gets replied to by a person from the relevant Policy Branch, but they very rarely seem to actually answer the question! And when they do, it's usually the Soldier's fault, of course.

The Navy News and RAF News are newspapers, whilst Soldier is a magazine. Only the larger shops stock them and WHSmiths carefully files them in completely different places! You have to search carefully!

I love those letters - every month another random Colonel who's been made SO1 Bogbrushes to keep him in a job because we want to keep the same number of senior officers as we had in 1945 while we have the same number of men as we had in 1620 is trotted out to write half a page on why some squaddie who hasn't been paid for six months is a f*ckwit who should be flogged for having the impertinance to question the job being done by HQ Bogbrushes.

RAF News is much more absorbant and focusses mainly on fast jets (esp. Typhoon) and CAS's social diary. I have myself had two letters printed in RAF News, only one of which required a defensive, vague and unsatisfactory answer. The other was obviously felt to be too whimsical.

Oi, you've left "The Craftsman" off your list Duke!

Absolutely essential reading if you wish to know anything about LEAN principles (as I'm sure we all do), or how well the REME Battalions are doing at Ten Pin Bowling and Nurdles. Another rivetting letters page in there too, with the obligatory whinge from some passed over pimmelkopf about how it's not fair that tiffies are allowed to tell him what to do etc, etc.

The Guest Editorial's always a hoot as well; not only does it give some SO1 the opportunity to write unadulterated soporific staff drivel, it usually points the way for the next business buzzword bingo panacea the Corps is going to latch on to. This magazine is Total Excellence IMHO!
