Well the Euro lads went where they were told to go and did what they were told to do. If anybody needs a good kicking its their governments who won't commit them to the fight. I'm sure they'd get on with it if they were told to do so and I'm also sure that in the same position the Yanks, the Brits, the Ausies etc would be partying as well. It doesn't make it right but you can't point the finger at the party goers.

Agreed, but if you've been in Helmand and you get faced with it, it's bound to rile you up. To be fair though, they're keeping the sustaining peace in their areas. It would be nice to see more helping the Americans, Brits, and Canadians down south though. However, since most of the troops speak english and need to make quick communications to coordinate, maybe its better this way after all. What we really need is to get the ANA ready for it. They've been progressing nicely, but slowly.

Yes it would rile me and I haven't been to Afganistan. In fact the last time I set foot on in a barracks was 1992 but I'm sure I understand the feeling.

Well I haven't even been in a barracks, but like you said, that sort of scenario of seeing drunken partiers in the rear is one that can be imagined.

I was just thinking, take the glasses of beer away and that photo doesn't half look ominous!!

Actually, I'm not sure how much mischief making is taking place here, that doesn't half look like the functions room from Combined Endeavor (sic) which is a NATO/PfP interoperability workshops and has lots of social events.

If you say it's KIA then fair enough!!

Well before our lads go up country sabotage all the fuses, fridges and tvs and karaoke machines. Or one person to walk up to the tv and play back some of the action.

I'm pretty sure that the blokes from the 3 Para BG may have something to say about that. In fact why not pop down in person to Colchester, announce your arrival at the guardroom and the issue you wish to dicuss - cnut!

Got to say having seen SLB and BAS at night I can well belive it
Can't agree more. I couldn't believe coming out of a 'dry' forward base in Basra after 5 months for R&R, and seeing the parties going on just a few miles away. You could even see the illum being fired over the city- two different worlds.

Anyone who was ever up at CAN in Al-Amarah will back me up on how annoying it was to hear of all the revelry down at SLB and BIA. I was particularly miffed to be told that I couldn't have an OSD as I was in a specialist role and so couldn't be spared, then to be cheerfully told by an RAF Cpl at BIA whilst on my way home, that he'd managed to get two OSD's in on his FOUR month tour. Not his fault I know, if you can get it, good luck, just really fcuked me off.

A couple of things I remember from Telic 4
Euro 2004 Naffi and BFBS kept advertising the games and win a car
There will be a toga party at Shaia Napa (SLB) for the England game
Some one ( a PWRR full screw I think) sent a snotty letter explaining Al Ammarah to BFBS super star DJ and asking if he could stop winding us up as we are living in iso containers and don't have a nice big EFI with 50 inch TV's to watch the footy on nor were we on the 200 can rule

We were down in SLB one night waiting to go back up route 6 (can't remember why we were there) when some one mentioned where we were from and it was a conversation stopper
Looking at our faces you would have thought we had never seen womon in skirts or pizzas the look of disgust on my colleagus faces said it all

A friend (mover) from the RAF explained to me how there tour had been lengthend to 4 months and a week
The reason for the extension?
You have to serve over 4 months to qualify for OSD and two weeks R & R
plus no going the long way C17 Bas to Bzn and back
Plus (may be an urban myth) there was late starts on a Friday because the Naffi had a disco on a thursday night you could often see birds doing the walk of shame home on a friday morning

So we just can't blame the foreigners

Much head shaking ensued
