Nationality and Borders Bill - What does it do right and what does it do wrong?

I for one am following the progress of this bill quite closely not just because it was put forward by the beautiful busty Priti Patel but because also I'd like to see loopholes closed which allow these "illegals/refugees/asylum seekers" use to take the piss.

The point of revising existing bills and putting new ones into practice is sometimes when you give too many civil liberities and right's they get taken for granted, for example "asylum seekers" coming into UK from an actually safe country i.e France.

The bill aims to plug the gaps and make it harder for people who enter the UK illegally or without proper documentation to claim benefits and also residency rights, in theory not a bad thing.

It's getting there slowly but sure and here to follow progress...

There is also massive opposition from a minority of do-gooders as usual - Welcome to the Kill the Bill protests, apparently they don't like the idea of being told to disperse when a "peaceful protest" becomes "unpeaceful", the UK plod don't give a shag about people protesting peacefully but when sticks, stones and molotovs come out and they have to bring out the Tactical Support Groups, mind you I expect the plod like us love a good scrap and getting their hands dirty.

I was present as the 'Kill the Bill' protest as it went along The Strand in London on Saturday afternoon. It was the usual collection of student activists with purple hair, turkey-necked Socialist Worker Trots (who provided a lot of the banners), dreadlocked Trustafarians and a lot of grey-haired women couples. There was street theatre and drummers. All good natured until the 'Kill the Bill' mantra started to be chanted and this seemed to whip up some elements, powered by the deep and persistent (indeed tribal) drumming. This led to a lot of aggro towards the police and especially the blue-jacketed police liaison officers. Oh, the irony.

I had my cameras and after a bit of pushing, I put them away and walked up to Covent Garden to see much better entertainment and have lunch with a friend.

Looking at the type of people opposing the Bill is proof of its need.
