Nanny State Porn Ban Incoming

From your link:

"Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt announced he was appointing Amal Clooney as the UK’s envoy on media freedom. Today Culture Secretary Jeremy Wright has put out a government White Paper on ‘Online Harms’ which includes proposals for a regulator which will have the power to ban the websites of non-compliant companies from being accessed in the UK at all". BTW: WHY Amal Clooney - what does SHE know about the industry ?

And so it begins, Government Control with a regulator that decides what's good or not, fine if you have someone like me in charge, watch all the legal porn you want, minimum 25 years lock up and a duffing every week for illegal kiddy stuff. Support freedom of the Internet, look after the small guys keeping an even plane for everyone not just the big guys.

But what if you get some super anti porn nut-job who thinks Kathy Kozy and Nadine Jansen rubbing titties together is horrific? Blacks on Tiny Teen Blonde's may become minimum 25 years lock up and a duffing every week.

We all, (well everybody except Politicians), know how much of a fcuk up the Internet will become, over budget, over staffed, data breaches, bans over nothing, politicized, more expensive, and very very boring !!
The same Amal Clooney that keeps suing the government?

So expect any site critical of government to be stomped on for "public safety" - especially if Commissar Corbyn gets to be in charge.

Thin end of a wedge, etc.

Has the ban actually happened? If I were to visit my gentleman's recreational website of choice, will my desktop light up like a Christmas Tree and klaxons sound to alert my wife and neighbours?

When you let me know, I have a CV on stand-by!

This is going to be hysterical.

Government, IT, large data-sets, PII - actually maybe I'll stay well away from this one!
It's usually a cash-rich, target-free environment for about three years, then it's time to fold the old tent and steal away into the night.

As it were.

Any suggestions?

Nord looks ok. They do charge though, I believe.

Nord is good.

Mullvad is good. Easy to set up. I use it for general surfing as a matter of course. 5 euros a month. Fastish speeds. No logs kept at all even if it is in the 14 eyes (Sweden).

5 Eyes, 9 Eyes, 14 Eyes - Explained | Restore Privacy

Not great customer support, but on the whole works well for general use. If you are used to VPN's or proxies it's a nice little second VPN to have for normal use.

When you go surfing the dark web for hitmen or illegal drugs, I suggest turning to something else a bit more nefarious...

Just kidding, that stuff is highly illegal.

Just don't use a free VPN. Mullvad is about the easiest to set up I have found for normal use.

It won't work on XP and it won't work on x32 platforms - you need a 64-bit OS to use it, but it's pretty good especially with the new GUI.

You are best advised to send them cash in an envelope (no really, they won't rip you off). Paying for a VPN with your visa/debit/credit card is a bit like going snorkelling without your flippers on, or not double-bagging it with the town bike. You'll probably get away with it, but...

Then again, I pay for mine with a card. But I have a certain use case.

You can pay in cash via envelope or your can pay in bitcoin, which is good as well.

It's also got a client for Linux if you are in to that.

I'm told it works quite well for Netflix too but not all the time. They are always adding new servers.

VPN's are a pain for a novice to set up. I've never come across an easier one than Mullvad. It's about the best there is for just downloading, installing, putting in your number and choosing which server you want in what country.

mullvad.net

You can just pay as you go. Buy one month at at time. Then top up.

I'm not affiliated. Lots of VPNs spam forums and have affiliates. Mullvad doesn't. Use it or not, I don't care.

The VPN I use for serious stuff is outside of the 14 eyes and costs a little bit more, and that is good as well, but I use it rarely. It's reliable though.

If you just want to get around a porn ban, Mullvad is perfect. And the best thing is when you choose 'Netherlands' as your main server, you get served Dutch porn by Xhamster.

But no one should ever have to watch Dutch porn.

Some things can not be unseen...

Having said that, don't use Germany as your main server either.

<shudders>

Even better, stop being such a ****** and go and ride your bike or something...

I’ll be honest, that’s mostly a string of words in order to me. I’m a techno mong.
Thank you though.

It acts as a VPN, stuff that is currently blocked can be accessed, so I assume the latest things to be blocked (ie non pirate related) will be bypassed just as easily
From reading a description of its function, it only compresses delivery of media to your device. The outgoing request would logically still be on an unmasked IP. Equally, as other more knowledgable types on here have suggested, VPN's can let your IP through. The 'free' ones almost certainly will.

I'd suggest that TOR browser is vastly more likely to do the job than Opera.
