Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I've just read a history of Dunkirk and one thing puzzled me a tad. How, when and why did certain Corps change the name of their troop formations, ie:- Sappers from Companies to Squadrons and RAOC from Field Parks to Companies?
  2. How gay is "field parks"????

    Bar idea.....
  3. In WW2 both terms were used simultaneously: REs attached to Armoured, Commando and Parachute formations, along with those equipped with AFVs such as the AVRE, were 'Field Squadrons'. Those attached to Infantry and Airlanding formations, as well as those attached to Corps and higher formations, were 'Field Companies' (or 'Field Parks' in some cases).
