In as far as you can discuss, is NAIAD still in service and, if not, what has replaced it?

MCAD being an optical system, is it capable of working on a heuristic basis? Or simply does it need to be fed the parameters of agents or can it detect something which it "thinks" is a nasty chemical?

Edit:- For the avoidance of any doubt here, I'm looking for a mechanic for a fiction piece. I need a reason why a (relatively) low tech UK formation would consistently be able to detect and protect against a chemical "attack" which goes unrecognised by much better equipped partner-nations. Thought the wet chemistry element of NAIAD would do it for me.
