NAIAD

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. In as far as you can discuss, is NAIAD still in service and, if not, what has replaced it?

  2. NAIAD - No
    MCAD - Yes

  3. Having given this question due consideration I think: if it was, the answer would be "Yes and No", if it wasn't, the answer would be "No and No", hope that helps.

  4. Thanks for that
MCAD being an optical system, is it capable of working on a heuristic basis? Or simply does it need to be fed the parameters of agents or can it detect something which it "thinks" is a nasty chemical?

Edit:- For the avoidance of any doubt here, I'm looking for a mechanic for a fiction piece. I need a reason why a (relatively) low tech UK formation would consistently be able to detect and protect against a chemical "attack" which goes unrecognised by much better equipped partner-nations. Thought the wet chemistry element of NAIAD would do it for me.
