NAAFI 100 years old this year!

I thought it no longer existed?
ETA: seems I was wrong.

"LIEUTENANT GENERAL RICHARD NUGEE CB CVO CBE
Non-Executive Director and NAAFI Chair
Lieutenant General Richard Nugee CB CVO CBE served in the Army from 1985 to 2021. He served on numerous operational tours while at the same time focussing on personnel (HR) roles within the Army and Ministry of Defence, latterly spending 4 years as Chief of Defence People (i.e. Defence Global HR Director) responsible for central policy for all Service personnel, their families, all Defence Civil Servants and the nation’s veterans. In March 2020 he took on a review of Defence’s approach to climate change and is continuing as the Ministry of Defence’s Climate Change Non-Executive Director."

Dick is the brother of the poor bloke married to none other than Lady Nugee who prefers to go by her real Name of Emily Thornbury.

Stamps or discount?

When did NAAFI become overpriced and useless? WRVS could provide a much better service

It was only ever designed to be a non-competitive monopoly to continue along the lines of UK companies of that time (the 20's), providing their workforce with tokens they could only spend in their shops..........oh, and to provide a nice little earner for retired 2 stars.
The chogie shops in NI and Honkers provided a much better value of service than the NAAFI ever did.

I once got a hash brown out the vending machine in the NAAFI at Gordon barracks in the 90s, I reckon that specific hash brown was deffo more than a century old.

“Lt Col” Emily Thornbury, surely? :D

I fondly remember the pies. The finest concoction of grease, gristle and gravy that low paid pond life could buy. A welcome top-up to the barely edible stuff in the mess and beer absorbent.

Blimey, there are more Officer appointments than I thought!
I must be turning into some sort of socialist as I'm disgusted that so many serving or RO are required to make sure Tommy Atkins gets his NAAFI growler.

How much do we taxpayers spunk on this bollocks when we could be tendering contracts to people who do it for a living instead of providing retirement jollies for the entitled classes?

Remember at Bordon the naafi selling sausage rolls with a 4 year shelf life!
Only at the naafi can you get such a good shelf life!

Jan 1921 NAAFI was formed, I think you can still get the Growlers out of the NAAFI pie machine Happy Birthday

I'm still paying for the mahoosive Technics stereo I stupidly bought on Tour in Northern Ireland, which I paid for using my shiny NAAFI credit card, in 1991.

There was a NAAFI shop at the old postal depot in Mill Hill that was a handy source of Apfelkorn in years gone by.
