A wife is beleived to be the first Muslim woman to give evidence against her husband for raping her. Special measures were put in place at Southampton Crown Court to enable the woman to give evidence. The Court heard because of her religious beliefs, the victim had not initially been prepared to talk about sexual matters in front of men. She testified on condition that only a female interpreter be present at the hearing. She spent five days giving evidence via a video link, so jurors could see her but she couldn't see them. Judge Jeremy Burford QC handed down an order without limit on the Victims husband as he is suffering from paranoid schizophrenia.
