Hello everyone.

I am,by profession,an Imam or Muslim Priest 27 years old.Everyone knows whats been happening over the past few years with terrorism and muslim fantics etc. and how this country has dealt with this issue,in my opinion, was/is par excellance. I know its sounds cliche, but I want to give back something back to my country.
My problem is,when I have discussed this was others is that I have been told the army is quite racist and I will be seen as not one of us.
Dont get me wrong I can take a joke and I quite understand taht i will have to take orders from those abov and in training,I dont mind this. But if I am to be singled out and discriminated against all the time than I dont think its worthwhile to join the TA.I live in manchester and can speak Arabic so I was thinking of training in a specialist role.

Please be as frank as you want to be in your replies, its for the best.

Thanks in advance to all that reply.

Bugly, well done & nicely said. And broforu, go for it! The Army's a bigger, better place than civilians realise.

Sorry you live in BlackPuddingShire, maybe you should consider moving to the correct side of the pennines.

I'm pretty sure you'd get a commission as an officer very quickly (as an PQO - if I'm wrong I would be surprised). For muslims I've known in the TA, the biggest problem they found was being focused on for PR campaigns. Yes I have seen a problem in the early 90's and I reported it but none since.

Look at joining Signals in Sheffield, you sound a good bloke.

I think you'll find it's Lancashire.

broforu, I am sure you will find army life a refreshing change; where an individual is judged on their ability and not religion, colour or race.
Try to develop a thck skin though, squaddy humour has more of the sledge hammer than the rapier to it, but is distributed freely, evenly and often.
If you speak Arabic then as had already been said, the Intelligence Corps would snap you up, subject to passing the selection process. One of our learned members suggested going as a chaplain, which might appeal to you also.
Whatever you choose I wish you well.
