Our client manufactures precision optical components and accessories for analytical instruments. High quality glass and quartz materials are cut, ground, drilled and polished to high tolerances and standards of finish prior to being assembled and undergoing glass fusing techniques to complete construction. All parts are then carefully cleaned an inspected in addition to quality control during production.

We are looking to recruit for the following positions:

    • Ultrasonic drilling machine operator &

    • Pillar drill operator

Able to read technical drawings, set up jigs, measure drilling positions and run medium batches of components. Able to use measuring equipment, verniers, micrometers and set-squares.

    • Store assistant / glass cutter

To help in our store room; receive deliveries, distribute received goods around the factory and keep control of and issue stocked materials. To prepare and cut sheet glass/quartz to requested sizes and wax materials together into stacks as requested.

    • Optical component chemical cleaning operative

Will work safely with solvents and chemical cleaning agents to operate a range of processes in our cleaning plant. This role is also important as a quality check during the manufacturing process.

    • Glass and quartz torch fuser

Will use heat sources to accurately bond individual components together. A keen eye and steady hand are vital to this craft.

All roles are Monday to Friday 08:00- 16:45

All positions require the ability to work with attention to detail and to have good hand and eye co-ordination. All our materials are brittle and liable to chipping and scratching; great care is required in their handling. A background in engineering or manufacturing would be an advantage, as would be experience working to British Standard ISO 9000.

Our client produces a unique product, using unique techniques, we do not generally expect to be able to hire people with an exact match of experience to each job. A candidate’s ability and willingness to learn new skills and experience with suitable transferable skills will allow us to invest in them in our full training programme.
