'Get a grip' Cameron tells 'costly' expenses

David Cameron hit out at Parliament's expenses watchdog today, branding it 'overly bureaucratic and very costly'.

Mr Davies said: 'As far as I'm aware, it's not standard practice in the public sector for workers to fund their offices and equipment out of their own pockets - and then to negotiate a bureaucratic obstacle course in order to get the money back if they're lucky.
'Could you tell us whether you think this is a good system for Members of Parliament or whether it's undermining efforts from MPs on all sides of the House.'

Mr Davies' request was drowned out by a huge cheer from backbenchers, many of whom have complained about late payments from the watchdog and about its complicated computerised system.
