In reality all regiments are equally as good. Just be sure you want to be on main battle tanks, if not then you might want to look at a recce regiment.
What he said. I wanted to be on tanks when I joined up in 1975. Was rather peeved to learn when I got there that the Omagh tour the Regiment was on was precursor to rerolling as Recce and I wouldn't be swanning round the Corps Area in the behemoth of my dreams.

But in the end, seven years of Recce were brilliant craic before I commenced a seven-year resettlement course.

Of course if you seek a commission, it's a different kettle of ballgame. I got accepted for RCB (but failed) and was surprised to learn that the "private income" and "posh accent" malarkey survived despite the changes that had been trumpeted.

But that was 30 years ago. I bow to the better knowledge of a younger generation on that question.

IF you can get a commission in The Sappers, you have a choice of being in an Armoured Engineer Regiment,as well as many other specialisations(eg Survey,Commando,Para etc)

Can i just ask quickly if the Kings royal hussars are any good as a regiment within the parameters of operational effectiveness and atmostphere? I'm aiming to be an royal engineer but thinking that i should have other options and i am currently looking at one of the armoured regiments.

Ah so you came after me. By the sound of things you must have either been down in Catterick on the last UK posting or at Bovvy. Either way I hadn't been out long then and I would know a helluva lotta people you do.

I wonder is the scratch still on the mirror at the entrance to the NAAFI at Bovvy? Rumour has it that it was put there by a WRAC who threw a punch at a bloke and missed. Her diamond ring did the damage.

Are you on the reggie website btw? There's a lot of us there - including (would you believe) GANGER!!!!
