Most desirable RAC regiment?

#1
I am considering joining an RAC regiment but am undecided on which one. While i appreciate the need for posh p*icks i would like very much to avoid to much contact with them being of the inclination that we do not need the bastards. Any advice on regiment ethos, standards , deployments etc would be much appreciated!

Lets just say, the reformed 3rd will do!

The best retained regiment, the most travelled regt since the cold war ended, the regt with the most options, the first of track. 1 RTR is the way to go.

Thanks for the info guys. Many have told me to join the QDG due to the high proportion of welsh men but i dont know if this is a good thing or not. Have the QDG got a good reputation as a regiment? cheers

Why join anybody else when you can join the QDG !!!!!

This thread should tell you alot! :D there my local (hereford) RAC regiment although they never get much of mention in any of the local press or afco.

a quick shufti around various websites (army, qdg regimental) will show you that these guys have been involved in bucket loads of ops over the years, and have an excelent rep.

But go on some visits and get a feel for the unit before you sign the dotted line.
(This IS the advice that you'll see repeated a thousand times in these forums.)

Well said Tiny,

There are a lot of very good unit's out there, but if you can or have to choose. 1 RTR is the best, and with the CBRN role, should ensure that you don't miss out on anything that may or may not happen in the future.

Good luck.

Toe.

Can i just ask quickly if the Kings royal hussars are any good as a regiment within the parameters of operational effectiveness and atmostphere? I'm aiming to be an royal engineer but thinking that i should have other options and i am currently looking at one of the armoured regiments.

QDG's are fine mate but they are cavalry and as a result you will come into contact with a load of posh baskets,

If you want to stay away from that, join one of the RTR regiments. Same job, different people. "Chav Cav" we call them.

In reality all regiments are equally as good. Just be sure you want to be on main battle tanks, if not then you might want to look at a recce regiment.

hrwilliams_wales............as one old statesman once said..........dont ask what your country can do for you, what can you do for your country ? (open to exact phrase analysis, but close ?).........QDG...top bunch of blokes, slack discipline, laid-back attitude, good on sport, drinking and from time to time, when forced, can do the army thing too......there you go, get in there butty.

Dont do RTR matey, if you know the Gurnos and if you know Mayfair............thats the difference !

Ok lets have some clarification here. I'm Welsh and it dont take the brains of Bob Runcie to work out my Regt. Your Welsh so listen up! When you say you dont want anything to do with "posh pricks" then quantify that statement. What do you mean by posh pricks? Do you mean rich cnuts? Do you mean people you perceive to be of a higher social standing than you? Do you mean people who have had a better education? all sounds a bit chippy to me matey, i think you need a reality check. It dont matter a rats arse to me whether a bloke speaks in a "posh" accent and sounds like little Lord Fontleroy or one from Llanelli who sounds like a dull cnut, all that matters to me is how that man behaves under fire and when the siht hits the fan. Let me tell you boyo i have seen the toughest lad from the toughest low life scummy estate in Wales wobble under pressure while the scrawney twat with no chin stands firm. So lets have no more of this French Revolutioniary bollox shall we... You will find that wherever you go in the British Army you will encounter scum from the valleys (i am that scum) and are highly likely to meet someone called Tarquin who went to Eton, thats the way of things, if you ARE joining the Army get used to it mate. Remember this; these guys (posh pricks) are bred to die in a muddy Belgian field and by and large they do it rather well!
As for who to join.... well its a no-brainer, if your Welsh and like your sport and love a pint and love the girls and like to punch the odd Gunner or Loggie then its QDG for you matey..... TOP blokes always at the forefront of anything worthwhile be it Ops or just having a laugh!
1 RTR - Car Wash Regiment, If you want to be a soldier in the Peoples Cav join the 2nd but Tanks are crap.
Any other Cav Regt - If you want to be called Taff for the rest of your army career then go for it; some are good some are shite especially the 9/12L.
