Fascinating discussion of RAF PR in WW2 here..Aye they went to Berlin & beyond but with the guns removed to allow space for extra fuel tanks & no armoured windscreen & much of the armour plate omitted to save weight.
another point about 944's flight over Berlin was that he said that he was at 30,000 feet, well within the capabilities of an ME 109 or FW 190 and all of the German heavy anti-aircraft guns.
They were at CT international. Is that not where The Thunder City Lightnings and Buccaneers were, what has happened to that fleet now?
Thank you. Brilliant.Fascinating discussion of RAF PR in WW2 here..
Those things used to terrify me when I was a very young child in the early fifties. We lived 15 miles North of RAF Aldergrove (in an ex-service man's cottage) and they flew training exercises over over our house. They came screaming in, low enough to see the pilots.I quite like the Vampire.
Gooney Bird Grows Water Wings - Douglas DC-3/Dakota HistoryI seem to remember in an Airfix magazine along time ago, a conversion of a DC3 using a modified set of floats from the Ju 52.
