Gerry and Kate McCann used money from the Madeleine fund to pay for their mortgage, the family's spokesman has confirmed.
At least two mortgage payments had been paid from the fund, set up to help find the couple's daughter and support the family.

The use of donations had previously been called into question after it was revealed about a third of the money had been used to meet the McCanns' living costs, publicity fees and pay staff.

Not quite in the spirit for which the money was donated.

I have no issues with that , bearing in mind that what the fund was for, as they will obviously not be working while they are searching for their child, they a probably on unpaid leave from work, the mortgage have to be paid somehow, the mortgage company are not going to waive the payments out of sympathy for the MCann family, I personally don't think she did it, this is smear from the Portuguese police who wants to shift the blame for their incompetence and look like they are doing something.

sadly I think the child is probably dead, no ransom demands, no evidence or trace of her since the dissapearance is every parents nightmare, I would not wish it on my worst enemy.

Fully agree, I have a four year old boy, and can only begin to imagine what they are going through. But there are too many anomolies (sp) in the stories. How come the picture of the abductor has only just been released?

Any way this has probably done to death ('scuse the pun), so best not to start it all again.

We all know that they have not worked for months ,Yes they had top professional jobs but they still have a mortgage to pay and children to look after will all the other bills you need to look after there family and keep a roof over them . It must be traumatic enough to have gone through what as happened with there little daughter missing .

Yes the money may have been there to find Madeline ,But the little girls family also needs the public support to help them with all these problems they have to endure .
I bet if they had set up an appeal that said, send us money to pay for the mortgage, our worldwide trips and staff wages they'd have received a lot less. They're taking the p*ss and they know it.

I wonder if they donated any funds to the Vatican when they were there. The Pope's probably down to his last couple of tonnes of gold and a symbol for the poor everywhere. He probably charged them a few bob for holy confession.

Doesn't seem unreasonable considering neither of them has been earning a wage for the last 6 months due to all this.
They have both been on compassionate leave since the claimed abduction, and have both received their normal salaries.

According to article they have been on unpaid leave. Who's right?

He's going back to work but cannot have contact with patients - that will be useful - a consultant who can't consult with patients!

According to radio 1 (so it must be true!), they have admitted to using the fund once or twice to pay the mortgage. Cheeky Feckers! 8O He's a consultant, I'm sure he could afford a month or two whilst he isn't / wasn't working.

Saying that, if anyone out there wants to send a donation for my mortgage then feel free! :D
