Security permitting, I am curious as to whether basic Infantry trg is vastly different from when I went through IJLB and Depot in 81 and 82. Are we still training for European operations, defensive positions, patrolling and ambushing etc or is it mainly geared towards current ops in the sandpits?
I understand that everyone does phase 1 basic training then is off to phase 2 which is special to arm. Is the basic stretch similar to what perhaps a stacker or even a gunner would have done back in my day or is it a little more advanced?
    Just curious!

  2. I would imagine that the inital training is more or less the same as the basic never change, but the idea behind Optag is to have theatre specific training isn't it?

  3. Basic is just the same, were that widely spread, its better to learn the basics and as 'FFBox' said, OPTAG trains us for the operational theatre we'd be getting sent to.

Yes but you train with corps nowadays unlike in the old days when you only trained with your own regt!
