MOD contracts safeguard hundreds of UK shipyard jobs

Ministry of Defence said:
Around 800 jobs in the UK maritime sector have been safeguarded after the MOD extended five maintenance contracts worth a total of £349m.

The renewal of this contract is a vindication of one of the most sensible contracting models used in ship support. It seems to work as a reasonable partnership between the RFA, the yards and various key suppliers. By using 2 separate companies for the work the MOD keeps each of them honest and the RFA are able to maintain a very high ship availability.
