Discussion in 'Army Reserve' started by Gas Gas Gas, Jan 4, 2003.
The heart of the site is the forum area, including:
The Press keep mentioning 7000 Reservists being called up. Has anyone heard anything?
The BBC website has something on this:
The Daily Telegraph (registration needed to read anything ) (telegraph.co.uk) quotes 6500 with 2000 being doctors/medics.
Are there enough of us left to meet this requirement ? - bearing in mind that most (if not all) of this number will be various specialised trades rather than BCR.
My gut feel (based on my unit) is that even if everyone who can go does go we'll still fall short of what the establishment would suggest could be provided. The lead time needed to make up for a decade of under-investment in the Army soewhat exceeds to fortnight or so available.
TONYS LOOKING INTO NEW WAYS TO CUT THE ARMED FORCES, WHAT BETTER WAY THAN GETTING THEM ALL SLOTTED IN SOME FAR FLUNG S**T HOLE AND NOT REPLACING THEM AND GETTING BROWNIE POINTS WITH PRES BUSH
If I am not "invited", I am not sure whether I should feel slighted or delighted.
If you ain't invited to the party, it could be for one of several reasons:
a. No-one needs your trade/spec group.
b. They have enough of your trade from other areas.
c. Your name was not in the "definitely up for it" pile, as opposed to the "possibly, but I'm doing my hair today", or the "Sorry, two dependant sprogs and I'm a single parent" piles.
d. You've been forgotten about (strangely enough, it can happen) :'(
Then, of course, as for formed Units, I hear evil rumours that North British Units are more likely to be called, as they are cheaper than southern ones. Anyone else heard this? Sad, but makes sense in these Chancellor-driven times. (Odd that both Inf Pl+ for Kabul come from N of the Wash?)
As to slighted or delighted - this is my last chance, so I'd feel very, very slighted indeed to miss out!
Slighted or delighted - take a look at this thread: http://www.arrse.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb1/YaBB.pl?board=gen_pol;action=display;num=1041841237;start=0 - and it's not a wind-up, it's a serious question.
Old Snowy - This is also my last chance (I'm the wrong side of 40). As TA Inf that would put me down the batting order but for the fact the Bde HQ I'm affliated to has a 90%+ chance of going. It all depends if they want to take "known faces" who know the set up with them or back fill with Regulars plucked from elsewhere. I suspect the latter. I might have a better idea later this week.
If any of the powers that be are looking in. I may live in the South, but at the moment I'm one of the cheap ones to mobilise. (Took redundancy last year and my new career does not pay as well as the old one - but I do work from home.)
Ditto almost everything there Gas3
But, I guess we'll have to wait for Bluppets statement
I still think mobilising all those AMS TA is going to be a drama, especially as some of those Primary Health Care professionals, are desperately needed by their NHS trusts....
So, if your Infantry, what is the chance of going as a formed unit?
Inf formed Units? At a guess, zero. May need Guards for all the Hospitals, though.
Lovely, so I guess we'll be warrior-ed up outside the Military wing of the biggest hospital hereabouts..
Is there enough money to even have TA do the Homeland Defence Force Gig?
Not until the 5th column mobilises I guess?
Stable doors and Horses.......
Not sure if Old Snowy can corroborate this but I reckon the call-out will be initiated tomorrow sometime.
Formed units of TA ? In a combat role ?! Don't make me laugh.
Dunno about tomorrow, but pretty soon I would guess - there's apparently even an Op name nearly ready for issue, too.
Formed units indeed, Greenspot!! THe time has come! There will be a huge number of individuals but certainly a small number of sub-units called out as well. BUT don't blame me if the politicians get the wobbles and don't go through with it!!
Boots - I'm sure there will be formed units. But teeth arms ? ???
Separate names with a comma.
