Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Found out my G/F was with 69th Mobile Field Bakery enlisted at Acton in 1939 must have seen his trade as he worked for Lyons as a baker , why were these under RASC control and not RAOC as in later years and any idea as to were I can find out were the unit was posted etc

  2. RAOC absorbed the supply functions of RASC in 1965,

Try above link...mat be info on there
  3. I have no idea about the specifics of your relly's unit, but I've recently been helping my old man research grandad, who spent most of the war on Malta with an AA unit.

The National Archive is a good starting point.

also the Beeb's got some useful starter info.

  4. I remember RASC bread it came in a white wrapper and was, by the time it reached us - the odd time we actually received it in the field, usually stale!

RAOC bread on the other hand had Happy Friday or whatever day of the week it was baked on printed on the wrapper, but it didn't say which Friday...
