MERS Coronavirus warning

This might be a local organization issue. For me (not that far north from you) We were given a list of all the local hospitals giving the injection, along with links to each sites automated booking systems. Then we could shop around amongst 4 hospitals to find the combo of time slot/distance/availiblity etc to pick.
Ooh, lucky!

We get a text message telling us where the vaccination will be and the number to phone to arrange time and date. No wonder there's only a take-up rate of 87% for over 70s.

Doubtless people could phone to arrange a different venue but there'll be more than a few people who will just think "Stuff it!".

Perhaps we just have too many vaccination centres in the area - at least 6 "big" ones - making selecting the most appropriate one just too much of an effort.

There is certainly a huge effort behind this from multiple agencies.

I'm under 70 and received a text message from a hospital in Tooting on the 11th of Feb, no idea why they contacted me, offering to arrange an appointment.

I looked them up and it was either a 45 min drive each way or 2 buses and 2 trains each way, approx 2 1\2 hours.

The post arrived then with a generic NHS letter giving a website to register with for the jab.

While I was reading this my GP's mob phoned to ask if I could attend the local hospital in Purley, 1 mile away, on the 16th.

I haven't felt so much in demand since the SSM was looking for someone to lemon with orderly sergeant each Christmas.

Only just seen the news on News at 10 tonight. Six cases of the Brazilian Variant have been detected in the UK. Three down South and three in Scotland.

Apparently all linked to foreign travellers on flights from.....wait for it, Brazil.

Quelle Surprise.

The aircraft should have been shot out of the sky never mind allowed to land in the UK.

Why are we so shit at stopping these flights coming in to the UK.

If this spreads like the rest of the variants we have wasted millions of pounds, and we are well and truly fcuked.

Heads should roll for this but they won't.

I despair.

Here's the COVID-19 summary for Sunday.
Coronavirus: What's happening in Canada and around the world on Sunday

Thailand started vaccinating on Sunday. They have arranged for 2 million doses of Sinvac from China (which they started with today) and 61 million doses of the Oxford vaccine.
In Asia, Thailand started its first vaccinations on Sunday with 200 public health officials receiving the Sinovac vaccine from China. The country has so far secured two million doses from Sinovac and 61 million doses from Oxford-AstraZeneca.

Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, have started a 2 week lockdown. President Bolsonaro is not pleased with this, and has threatened to cut off federal emergency aid to states who use lockdown.
In the Americas, Brazil's capital, Brasilia, has entered a two-week lockdown, joining several states in adopting measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 as intensive care beds begin to fill in some important cities. President Jair Bolsonaro again criticized such measures and threatened to cut off federal emergency pandemic assistance to states resorting to lockdowns.

South Africa have arranged for 11 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. They are also going to reduce some pandemic restrictions due to a decline in the number of cases.
In Africa, South Africa has signed an agreement with Johnson & Johnson to secure 11 million COVID-19 vaccine doses, President Cyril Ramaphosa said. Ramaphosa added that the cabinet had decided to ease restrictions on movement and activity due to a decline in coronavirus infections, downgrading the national alert level from 3 to 1.

This is why I doubt the theoretical easing of lockdown will be anytime soon. Every time a variant is identified the restrictions will be moved up a notch from wherever they've been eased down to.

It's too good a stick and carrot for the government to readily give up.

Anyone who plans a foreign holiday for the next couple of years is being very optimistic.

Neither conspiracy nor pessimist, just the way human nature and officialdom works.

So the flight from Brazil came into the UK via Paris then to London. A deliberate attempt by the scrotes to avoid detection. Then they "failed" to complete the questionnaire correctly to further avoid detection.

If caught they should be locked up for 10 years.

Bastards.

Unfortunately getting people to take up the vaccines may not be so easy as the propaganda exercise that put so many off taking any vaccine in the EU. EU leaders’ vaccine sniping backfires | The Spectator

Ah, I had forgotten about the controversy when that German newspaper stated that the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine was only 8 per cent effective on people over 65. I wonder if they've retracted that one yet or are just hoping that people will forget about it.

Here's the COVID-19 summary for Monday.
Coronavirus: What's happening in Canada and around the world on Monday

The US will begin inoculating people with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine this week. The company expects to ship 16 million doses in the US by the end of March.
Nearly four million doses of the newest coronavirus vaccine available to people in the U.S. are being delivered to states for injections starting on Tuesday.

The White House said the entire stockpile of the newly approved single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine will go out immediately. J&J will deliver about 16 million more doses by the end of March and 100 million in total by the end of June, but the distribution will be backloaded.

The US have confirmed that US president Biden will retain the previous president's policy and not allow vaccine to be exported from the US.
"No," Jen Psaki replied after she was asked at a press briefing if Biden was considering sharing part of the U.S. COVID-19 vaccine supply with allies. "The president has made clear that he is focused on ensuring that vaccines are accessible to every American. That is our focus."

The Philippines started vaccinations on Monday, using 600,000 doses donated by China. They have another 25 million doses ordered from China, and have been negotiating for a total of 148 million doses from Western and Asian countries.
In the Asia-Pacific region, the Philippines launched a vaccination campaign on Monday but faces supply problems and public resistance, which it hopes to ease by inoculating top officials.

Cabinet officials, along with health workers and military and police personnel, were among the first to be vaccinated in six hospitals after 600,000 doses donated by China were received on Sunday.

Brasilia Brazil are in lockdown. President Bolsonaro has been complaining about it on Twitter.
In the Americas, Brazil's capital has entered a two-week lockdown, joining several states in adopting measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 as intensive care beds begin to fill in some important cities.

Six cases of the P1 variant have been identified in the UK. It was brought by people who bypassed the UK's ban on flights from Brazil by going through other European countries.
In Europe, health officials in Britain have identified six cases of the P1 variant — including one in a person who has not been traced. Direct flights from Brazil to the U.K. have been halted, but the newly identified cases have been linked to people who came to the U.K. from Brazil through other European cities in early February.

Ivory Coast have begun vaccinations using vaccine delivered through COVAX.
In Africa, Ivory Coast has begun giving shots to inoculate against COVID-19 with vaccines delivered last week by the global COVAX initiative, which was created to ensure that low- and middle-income countries have fair access to doses.

No, the EU have now gone to SII in India as they, the EU have currently 80% of the Oxford AZ vaccine that was sent to the EU in storage as nobody wants it.

The working people that pay taxes in the EU nations will not forget this too soon.
In my region of France they are vaccinating 500 pax a day, out of a population of 600,000+
Quite simple maths really....................

As I have said on another thread, all of those unwanted Oxford AZ vaccines will probably be given in short order to members of the Bundeswehr, Gendarmerie Nationale, Polizei and others who will have little choice in the matter.

Ah, that may explain why SII suddenly have vaccine they can ship to Canada this week.

Talking down any approved vaccine creates a huge risk of backfiring on a vaccination program in general.

In a recent post I mentioned that a Canadian health expert was interviewed on video where he dismissed the idea that the Oxford vaccine was not effective on people over 65. He said it was a very conventional vaccine and we know how other vaccines of that sort work so there is no reason to believe that it would be less effective on people over 65.

He said that there were fewer older people in the original AstraZeneca trial, which is where the stats data showed uncertainty, but there is plenty of real world data collected since then which shows its effectiveness.

If the EU don't want it, I'm sure that Canada and plenty of other countries would be happy to take it all off their hands and be jabbing it in arms as fast as humanly possible.

Presumably they're all under 65 anyway.

So, the news yesterday that the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine provides 85% cover against hospitalization from Covid-19 wasn't exactly trumpeted by news organisations on that side of the Channel then ?

Real world data from ongoing live human vaccinations to date ?

What a bunch of asshats.

This is real booster shot for the Frexit campaign :)

- how long till France restores the Franc - and tells Bruxelles to << Foutez le camp ! >> ?

France reverses the decision not to give the Oxford Astra Zenica vaccine to the over 65's.

Just announced on BBC News.

Quelle Surprise.
Absolutely no choice in the matter, they painted themselves into the corner with this one.
Paris and 19 other regions are on heightened health surveillance, Dunkirk and Nice are on total weekend lockdowns, the whole country has a 6pm to 6am curfew and the Mayor of Paris is toying with the idea of a 3 week complete and total lockdown for the region.
If they want to get the country and economy going again this side of 2024 then fingers have to be pulled out, as we have just seen.

They have confused the fcuk out of older people on the Oxford AZ vaccine though, I don't see it changing their attitude much despite this.

Just noted that Merseyside police have nabbed a couple coming back from Dubai. They did something similar, flying back through a non-red country.
Found, escorted to the hotel, fined 10k and told off. So the system appears to be working - to an extent. People will always try find a way around any government rules and BF et al will try to stop this.

There are still murders and rapes despite laws to the contrary.

The punishment doesn't go far enough. It would be more fitting to round up their fellow travellers and quarantine them in a 5 star hotel, all-inclusive with a bottomless minibar, with the costs being charged to the couple. And advertise their address so that when they return home, they find that their house has been ransacked and taken over by squatters.
