Men's shoes for mess dress.

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Self explanatory really so I'll keep it short.

I'm looking for a high quality pair of all leather Oxfords or similar. Also are metalled soles the done thing for formal wear?

No budget as such, but I'm not a cavalry officer.

    Cheers in advance.

  2. I would respectfully suggest you avoid the metalled soles if possible, too much chance of slipping on a hard surface, especially when dwunk. If you must have metal studs/hobnails/tips or whatever, try silver paint first and see if anyone notices.
  3. Do you not wear George Boots/Wellies?

I've got a pair of size 10 Patent George boots that I might be prepared to sell.

  4. It's a choice of George boots or Wellies (boxed or not according to rank / tradition) and patent leather is cheating...

If you are lucky enough to be in a rifle regiment (I know there is only one nowadays) and know, or can bribe, the RQ you can get George boots for free
  5. You'll not go wrong with Cheaney shoes.
  6. Failing that, they're cheap enough at Asda.

  7. Go in sandles. Good enough for Jesus at the last supper.

Both the Rifles and the Royal Gurkha Rifles are rifle regiments.

George Boots are part of FAD (well for Rifles anyway) and as part of JNCO and Rfn's No.2 Dress, should be free. NSN 8430-99-132-6625. Reference; the Rifles Dress PDF available on the regiment's website.
  9. How about these?

  10. Lovely finish, is that a lump of wood for the toe cap?

  11. Shoes with mess dress - is that an RAF thing?
  12. Erm........ no???

    Anyway, let's not digress...

  13. I did find that site a couple of days ago, wasn't sure of the quality.

  14. I thought they were ok. Certainly worth the £35 I paid and they bulled up nicely for the wedding!
