medical rant

Hi All I had my re enlistment medical 5 weeks ago the mo who did my medical was about to pass me when the smo decided to get me referred
by letter to upavon, because of a back problem i had in 2004 (a pulled muscle by the way)which i had also confirmed was fine prior to my medical and had been for the last year or 2
how long does it take to get an answer from upavon that an orthopedic specialist wants to see me or not surly 5 weeks is taking the mick has anyone else had to wait this long for a referral after there medical
When I was still serving, it took me about four months to get an eye appoinment with the Army specialist, to try and get upgraded.

Also took about the same time when my civvy GP referred me for a very minor outpatient appointment.

Although, my GP told me a good way of speeding up the process is to phone the department directly and ask for if you can find out when your appoinment is, as you want to book a holiday... I have tried this and it did work.
Similar situation,
I'm currently in the process of re-joining, but was rejected instantly as I was discharged with back pain (incidently I have been pain/injury free for 3 years and I'm fitter now than when I originally joined)

Does anyone have any experience of the appeals process?
What are my chances?
How long does it take?
Does persisitance pay off?

My brother took 18 months to be finally rejected by TA for having a shunt ( a heart condition present in about 20% of males but not often diagnosed ), this was despite having been passed medically fit to join the Marines and having completed and passed his PRMC.

Another guy in my unit damaged his knee on ops but was fine upon return - army still took twenty two months to demob him and allow him to return to his civvy job.

What we have is MO's who are so scared of the compensation culture we find ourselves in now that they are unwilling to take the slightest informed risk lest it bite them in the arrse at a later date.

thanks guys just one problem no one can tell me where the referral went to at upavon .

Try Recruiting Group at Upavon.
ok the nightmare has come
got a letter today saying im unfit to serve this is without being seen by a specialist mcm desk officer said he may be able to do somthing but cant guarentee and is also livid with this very unprofesional approach .to not confuse you all this is the whole story

left the army in 2005 F.E with exemplary discharge
decided to re enlist in march this year
after being excepted by mcm div i was awaiting my medical from adsc
i received a letter from adsc asking me to CONFIRM that i have been free of any back or groin pain in the last year because my records show that i had pulled a muscle in my back in 1998 sorted with 2 weeks physio and never reoccuring
and a trapped nerve in my groin in 2001 treated a year later by an injection in 2003 with no reocurance
i was also asked to provide information of all excercises i do and quantity
i wrote back confirming there was no pain and had been none in the last year
i also had a local gp examine me and write a letter for me to send with mine saying i was fine with no problems
also provided my training programme
4/6 miles every other evening
50/100 pressups /situps every night.

i then got my medical date and went along , the MO who examined me found i was very fit and had no problems
he was about to sign me in when the SMO said he wanted me referred to upavon for an orthopedic specialist to see me this never happened and i was just turned down i am writing to said SMO tonight asking for a redress of this because i feel i have been very unfairly treated
who else could i write to about this because im not happy at all
