Medical Officer - O&G in army

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I've always had my heart set on a career in A&E / Pre Hosp medicine, but I'm in the middle of a 6 week special study module in O&G and I really love it! I had been under the impression the army didn't have O&G docs, so went into this placement just with the intention of making the most of the speciality whilst I could. However, I've now realised (after having another look on the RAMC website) it is possible to specialise in O&G whilst in the army, which opens up a whole new set of questions!

Do the O&G drs get to do much more than O&G (e.g. working in A&E, general surgery) when deployed? How many posts are there for specialist training within the AMS? If anyone has gone down this route, or knows someone who has, I'd really appreciate being able to have a chat with them. I know I could get in touch with them at AMS HQ, but as it's not urgent (I'm still only in 4th year) and have plenty of other more important questions to ask them, I'd rather not pester them!

    Many thanks!

  2. I did my PQO1a cse with a consultant in O&G. He's TA, but there are, without a shadow of a doubt, regular O&G consultants as well.

You might also consider posting this on in the DMS forum... although that will give away your ID.
