  1. I have just applied to join the army, completed my barb today and have now been given my medical stuff to fill in...

I used to have a condition called spontaneous pneumothorax (air in lung cavity), i underwent an operation in 2004 to correct this and have been told im in full health by both my surgeon and doctor and am currently running 3 miles a day plus all the other fitness stuff i need to do to get ready for IF i get into selection.

Can anyone either give me a number to contact regarding if its worth me continuing to apply as they have said it could be a problem, even though im fit ad healthy and have been since 2004... my army careers guy has said he dones not see a problem, but im worried i wont get in...

has anyone else had this condition and got in?

please give me any advice possible

  2. From JSP 346

edited to add: P8 = unfit for military service
P2 = fit for military service

  3. Not had this problem, but I have had dealings with the military medical system. Get fit and go into your medical armed to the teeth with letters from you specialist, surgeon, GP... all saying that you are a fit & healthy individual and have no problems with physical training. Put copies with your med forms. I dont know anything about your particular issue but I know of people who have previously had Asthma & underwent further testing to ensure that their lungs were clear. Once they had done that there was no problem.
Who told you it could be a problem? If they are in the know, find out more. Otherwise, Get your letters and chitties and go down with those. Your AFCO should have a number to contact.

    Good luck!

  4. where do i find this information so i can use this to submit with my medical for (more ammo) so to speak... to help with application

  5. Just quote the section above if you feel you have to add anything, bear in mind that jsp 346 is used to make decisions on medical suitability for entry to the forces, that is what it is for.

  9. Hi I recently had a pneumothorax, I have no problems in my family or any pervious problems or history of it and I'm pretty sure it was caused by the stress of limiting my own weight overarm such as pull ups to be honest. I was meant to start basic 2 weeks after it happened but have been put on hold, anyone know what will happen to me? I've finished selection am I still subject to the JSP 346?

    Any advice appreciated!
