Looking at some veteran sites on FB, you're getting all the usual bravado of "Yeah, I'm going, who's coming with me?" and "Lets go sort the ruskkis out!", then you look at their profiles and they are middle aged to old, overweight, couldn't run for a bus.
They might have been the mutts nuts 20 or 30 years ago when they were younger, fitter, trained, current and able, but now they would just be a massive liability.
After 27 years service, I'm old, broken and out of date. I've had my war, I'm staying at home. If by some miracle the war gets to the UK, then I will fight.

A lot of people are watching and waiting to see how the war develops. At the moment, nobody really has a clue how foreign fighters will be deployed. It's also unclear what their terms of service will be e.g. is there a minimum contract, will there be an irksome period of basic training etc.

Those with experience are considering issues like the quality of fellow volunteers - who are you sharing a room with on camp, and then trusting with your life at the front?

I heard that once the Ukrainians have a core of experienced Western soldiers, they may deploy them to hunt Russian logistics assets. That would certainly be an intelligent use of naturally adventurous and high quality troops. It might also free up Ukrainian special forces to mount missions into Russia itself.

Afraid my belt is long gone . Lost in the mists of time . and no idea as to it's fate now (I have gaps in my memory)

I'm a writer and journalist working for The New Voice, a new online magazine. (Apologies, I tried to include a link to the publication, but my post was rejected as spam when I did. I'm happy to provide a link to anyone who responds).

I'm working on an article about the Ukraine, the focus of which is foreign fighters. I am looking to speak to serving/former service people who are looking to travel to Ukraine to fight, or who are already out there fighting.
