Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Grateful if anyone could advise on a good source or website to value medals. It seems copious amounts are charged for an 'expert' to look and view a collection. I have my grandfathers medals from the second world war and am conscious they are (foolishly) not insured. It is the case that a medal cannot be valued on a single basis but is more assessed on the collection of the individual. I am informed that the other 'stuff' that comes with it adds to the value:

Silk Embroided Liverpool Scottish Card, Blue 'X' surrounded by embossed four leaf clover and horse shoe in each corner
Original Certificate showing number of medals of medals included
    1939 - 45 Star
    France and Germany Star
    Defence Medal
    War Medal 1939 - 1945
Post 2nd World War Territorial Medal King George

    Cheers in advance
