With 50 million customers, and responsibilities ranging from tax to national insurance, tax credits to collecting student loans, the whole nation depends on us to be fair and efficient – and to prevent the loss of money that should rightfully be used for everyone’s benefit. Our Criminal Investigation Directorate aims to disrupt criminal attacks on our tax system, support our colleagues in the investigation and deterrence of tax evasion, and prosecute frontier crime and smuggling.

The National Surveillance Coordination Team (NSCT) manages the Directorate’s covert surveillance activity. We are now seeking skilled individuals to join the Automotive Unit – a new arm of the NSCT, which will provide ongoing technical support and input to this vital area.

Both roles will be responsible for supporting and maintaining HMRC’s surveillance fleet, and the technology within it. You will offer technical advice and support, and liaise directly with a variety of internal and external parties, including providers. The Senior Technician will also enjoy budgetary responsibilities, and provide technical oversight on a range of developments.

Alongside specialist knowledge of general vehicle electric and electronic systems, all candidates must demonstrate in-depth understanding of – and an ability to develop, maintain and repair – technologies used for VTD equipment, Voice and Data Communications systems, Mobile Video Surveillance and Wireless Communications equipment. We’re looking for team players with high standards and good communication skills.
