Massed Bands of Household Div - Concert in Westminster

We've just had the following in by email asking us to highlight the Scarlet and Gold concerts taking place on the 15th and 16th November 2012 in Central Park, Westminster.

There are few more iconic images of the United Kingdom than the sight and sound of the Massed Bands of the Guards, adorned in uniforms of scarlet and gold with, of course, their black bearskin caps. They take their place at the very heart of all our great ceremonial occasions such as Trooping the Colour, State Visits and the Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, and were at the forefront of the celebrations earlier this year for Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee.

The bands number some of the finest military musicians in the world and the Scarlet and Gold concerts present a rare opportunity to hear all seven bands playing together on the concert platform.

The concert will feature all five bands of the Foot Guards as well as the two Household Cavalry Bands, perhaps more familiar from their role as mounted bands, along with Corps of Drums, Pipes and Drums and Fanfare Trumpeters. The programme will cover a wide range of music, old and new, presented as a spectacle of sound and colour.

The Central Hall, Westminster, is located opposite the main entrance to Westminster Abbey and is just three minutes’ walk from St. James’s Park Underground station. It is a short walk from Westminster, Charing Cross, Embankment and Victoria stations and a number of bus routes pass close to the hall.

Jarrod, me old cocker, it is an extremely good concert and well worth the effort. If you like your military music from the top drawer of the military music chest of drawers, this is it.
that does sound lke a good night out
