Mass Shootings in the US

Allowing the polite society to top themselves more easily.

'Handgun owners are at substantially heightened risk of suicide in the years after buying their first gun, a large new study finds. The study of more than 26 million California residents found that first-time handgun owners were nearly four times more likely to die by suicide in the coming years versus non-owners.
I suspect that they were contemplating suicide anyway and a gun seemed the easiest way of doing it.

And this is why the British Army doesn't allow soldiers weapons in the living accommodation anymore.

While most firearms deaths in the US are by suicide, easy access to firearms increases the number of deaths by such.

Most suicide attempts using methods other than firearms are unsuccessful. Most (unsuccessful) suicide attempts are single incidents. More than 70% of those who try once and fail never make another attempt. It is a spontaneous act when a person is at their lowest or as a result of an isolated traumatic event. However over 80% of attempts with a firearm are successful.

This means that that easy access to a firearm greatly increases the chances of that single attempt being successful when they would have otherwise likely survived using other methods.

Fortunately not a mass shooting, though the number of fatalities could rise by the sound of things.

'One man is dead and 11 people have suffered non-life-threatening wounds in a shooting in the United States city of Minneapolis on early Sunday local time.

'Minneapolis police had first said 10 people had been shot with “various severity levels of injuries,” but revised their total in a tweet posted just after 3am. The name and age of the deceased weren’t immediately released, and it wasn’t clear whether anyone was taken into custody.

'Minneapolis police spokesperson John Elder told local radio station MPR that authorities were still investigating what had happened. “We are in the infancy of this investigation, so at this point, we don’t know what truly led up to this shooting,” he said. According to police a “preliminary investigation reveals that individuals on foot started shooting... people scattered and suspects fled”.

Of course, "non-life-threatening wounds" are nearly always fatal.

Another typical weekend for the polite society.

'Nine people have been shot at a Saturday night "celebration" in central New York, authorities say.

'Of the nine victims, one was a 17-year-old boy in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head and eight others - ranging in age from 18 to 53 - were expected to survive, a release from Syracuse police said. No one was immediately taken into custody, and Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner emphasised that the investigation was in its early stages in an appearance at a press conference alongside Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh. Syracuse officers had arrived at the scene just before 9pm on Saturday on reports of a stolen car, but responding officers were met by people who said shots had been fired into the crowd of a "few hundred," Buckner said. The police chief said his officers didn't hear the gunshots. The event was "some kind of celebration" that was centralised in a parking lot near downtown Syracuse, Buckner said, adding that there were multiple locations in the area where shots were possibly fired.'

And the weekend ain't over yet. As it's the polite society, I hope they were in their Sunday best.

'At least five people have been wounded in an early morning shooting in the Texas capital, officials say.

'Five adults with "serious, potentially life threatening injuries" were taken to local hospitals by Austin-Travis County EMS, the organisation said in a tweet. The shooting took place around 3am on Sunday in a commercial area of downtown Austin, according to tweets from EMS and Austin police. Further information wasn't immediately available, and it's unclear whether anyone was taken into custody.'

Another typical weekend for the polite society.

'At least two people are dead and four have been injured at a retail distribution centre in the US following a shooting.

'The incident happened at a warehouse for large retailer Walmart in Red Bluff, California, about 300 kms north east of San Francisco. The shooting started at 3.30pm on Saturday after a car smashed into the centre which started a small fire. The shooter circled the car park before crashing the car and then opening fire with a semi automatic rifle, Yvette Borden of the Tehama County sheriff’s office told US TV station NBC

'A man, who has yet to be identified, was shot at the scene and taken to hospital. Chief Kyle Sanders of the Red Bluff police department said his officers engaged the suspect. “After arriving, a male adult shot at one or more of the officers multiple times. One Red Bluff police officer and one sergeant used their duty rifles and shot at the suspect, ultimately stopping the threat.” No officers were harmed. It is not known what the man’s condition is.'

I predict a massive spike in shootings in America as WuFlu drives many to peak derangement as the weather warms up.

Intentional car crashes on the motorway, although not common, frequently involve other people who may also get killed or at least seriously injured. Suicide by firearm is unlikely to involve third parties.

You've got a bit of an obsession about this thread, you should see a shrink.

I don't really know what you're getting at here.

Asyou say, suicide by intentional car crash is a very uncommon method, even in countries with strict gun laws. The most common methods of successful suicide (in order of most to least successful attempts) are hanging, intentional poisoning (including OD), jumping in front of a moving vehicle, drowning, fall from height and using a sharp object.

There is no evidence to suggest that intentional car crashes would increase if firearms were removed from the US equation.

I think suicide by car is the "considerate suicidee" way to go, in the hope that it will be considered an accident and your life insurance company will pay out for your dependents.

Fireworks on the 4th of July. I thought celebratory gunfire was so 'tribal Iraq'.

'It comes as 64 people were injured and 11 were killing in 45 shootings during Independence Day weekend - a threefold increase compared with the same three-day period last year.'

Hmm.. not just "wuflu" but the BLM idiocy is going to cause many, many more

snip "Gun violence exploded across the city after the NYPD disbanded its anti-crime unit of plainclothes cops on June 15, with three times as many shootings in the last two weeks of the month over the same period in 2019, police stats show.
And the shocking rise in gunfire — to 116 incidents from 38 between June 15 and July 2, a 205 percent increase — meant scores more victims were hurt or killed by bullets this year over last year.
Gunshot injuries skyrocketed to 157 from 47 in 2019, a 238 percent increase.
With a total of 205 shootings during the month, it was the bloodiest June in 24 years — going back to 1996, when the NYPD logged 236 incidents,"

Hey welcome to BLM logic and I imagine you would be correct. LE will take a very visible step back away from black communities and the results will be predictable.

POTUS warned the Mayor of NYC about this but the mayor knew best. Best for who?

Crazy - LAPD had 300 officers call in sick on 4th of July too.

And unfortunately this was one of the victims, witnessed by his 6 year old daughter. Some people are really f"!ked up.
