Mass Shootings in the US

Looks like the Boomtown Rats will need a rewrite to include the rest of the week.
I would like it for the Mondays reference but that would involve Bob being in the media more.

Sorry to say I would rather get the occasional report from the US of a mass shooting than listen to Bob "give us your fecking money" Geldof.

I know, I'm a bad person but if the cousins are going to off each other regularly, there's no need for another Gedof wankathon is there?

Not a mass shooting, a dispute over a skip......https://youtu.be/SF2ROKpLYiY

Mass shootings with a bit of context on the big picture of gun crime.

Well it certainly looks like Congress are working on it.

Trump said this morning:

We’re in the process of dealing with Democrats, Republicans. They’ve been working very hard on it, they’re coming back very soon,” the president said. “There’s a big package of things that’s going to be put before [Congress], by a lot of different people. We have a lot of groups working on it.”

What package the president spoke of — and whether it actually exists — is not clear. Congress does have a gun reform bill that has passed the house, (Democrats) H.R. 8, that would expand background checks on gun purchases. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has refused to take up the bill in the upper chamber, (Republican) and given that it deals with background checks — something Trump has made clear he is against expanding — it seems likely the president would veto the measure even if it passed the Senate.

So what exactly is Mr President talking about?
If you were to ask which orifice El Presidunce for Life is talking out of, you'd be far more likely to get an answer. Just saying like...

If you could explain how expanded background checks would have prevented the recent mass shootings, that would be nice.

Oh & here's a clue.
They wouldn't have, nor would they stop the shootings in Chicago, or Atlanta, or any number of socialist run middens.
Several mass shooters passed a background check, others criminally acquired their weapons.
The guns used by criminals aren't bought from law abiding citizens or gun shops & gun shows; they're bought on the street from other criminals.

How about everyone hands their guns in for disposal? Or are you too scared of your fellow citizens to even contemplate such a move? I'd also suggest that instead of firearms, you should have the right to go around carrying a flamethrower for personal defence. Just as sensible as carrying a bang stick in a civilian environment.

I'm sure all the criminals in the US will be at the front of the queue to hand over their (illegally held) firearms...

Flamethrowers are legal in the US. Apparently people do collect them. I don't know if there are any restrictions on carrying them in public.

There is a video on Forgotten Weapons where the host reviews one and fires it.

Didn’t I read that Colt are stopping sales of the AR15 to civilians. Along with Walmart stopping sales of certain types of ammunition. Commercial decision for Colt but I’m sure that the gun control aspect was discussed if only in passing.

This was discussed already, possibly on another thread. Colt have been in financial problems for a while due to being owned by a series of private equity asset-strippers. They have been losing market share in the civilian market for some time due to poor quality and high prices, so seeing them getting out of the civilian market altogether is no surprise.

An 80yr old suspect?! Fair play being such a good shot at that age!

On a more sensible note my thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved.
