Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Can anyone remember the pneumonic for locating yourself on a map, if you're lost?Ma

  2. DDCRAPS

    Direction
    Distance
    Conventional signs
    Relief
    Alignment
    Proximity
    Shape

  3. Global
    Positioning
    System

    Hope that helps.

  4. Mag to Grid get rid for bearings and E before N for Grid References .... does that help ?

  5. "The Circle of Uncertainty is an imaginary line drawn around an Aircrewman and his nav-bag."

Alternatively, look out of the window and make the map fit the ground. Then call in a fire-mission; the bigger the better. Where the rounds come in will be (roughly) the grid you gave them.
