Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. For the past two years 'The Suits' (HD Committee) have told the Far East Veterans that they can not 'Officialy' wear their PJM's (Malaysian Service Medal) However the fight4thepjm team has enearthed a document from the archives of the London Gazette which states -

    LONDON GAZETTE MARCH 3rd 1968

    FORIEGN AND COMMONWEALTH OFFICE

ORDERS,DECORATIONS AND MEDALS CONFERRED BY MEMBERS OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF WHICH THE QUEEN IS NOT HEAD OF STATE, AND BY FOREIGN COUNTRIES.

The Queen has been graciously pleased to approve that Orders, Decorations, and Medals conferred with Her Majestie's permission upon United Kingdom citizens not being servants of the Crown by the Heads or Governments of Commonwealth Countries as defined above, or of Foriegn States, may in all cases be worn by the recipients without restriction.

This clearly shows that 'The Suits' have wrongly advised Her Majesty by denying the right to wear the PJM, for her approval is granted by the above.

  2. So, get yer Saudi, Kuwaiti and IMATT tin mounted up too if you're no longer serving.

  3. This statement by The Queen in the London Gazette 1998 is only applicable to UK citizens who are no longer in the service of the Crown and who attend remembrance and veterans day parades organised by civilian organisations.

Ex service persons who join the police, prison, or civil service are still restricted from wear of such foreign medals when on parade in uniform or at civil receptions in the name of HMG.

Only purchased medals are classed as tin or bling. The Saudi & Kuwait medals awarded to veterans from the 1991 Gulf War are OFFICIAL foreign medals awarded to UK armed forces personnel in the 1991 Gulf war.
