You can tell it's art and not based on real life. A real settee would have cracked in half under that weight or at least touched the floor in the middle. OTOH, it does show that he knew a few ladies from some of the less salubrious pubs in Essex. Did he paint Big_Birds' avatars?
Used to slop a bit of paint about. Interior decorator, and a bit of lad, from the write up ...
Freud is rumoured to have fathered as many as 40 children[SUP][/SUP] although this number is generally accepted as an exaggeration. After an affair with Lorna Garman, he went on to marry her niece Kitty (real name Kathleen, daughter of sculptor Jacob Epstein and socialite Kathleen Garman) in 1948. After four years and the birth of two daughters, Annie and Annabel, their marriage ended.[SUP][/SUP]
He then began an affair with Lady Caroline Blackwood, a society girl and writer. They married in 1953. The marriage was dissolved in 1959.[SUP][/SUP]
Freud also had children by Bernardine Coverley (fashion designer Bella Freud and writer Esther Freud); Suzy Boyt (five children); and Katherine Margaret McAdam (four children: Paul Freud, Lucy Freud, David Freud and Jane McAdam Freud, who is also an artist).[SUP][/SUP]
At least he could paint, in that his people are recognisable as humans. For a real idea of how to waste money on crap, look at some of the works of Cy Twombly, who died last week. Mind you, his are only $10m+, compared to a LOT more for a Freud. Cy Twombly - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rarely, in this area, Lucien Freud seems to have been a raving Hetero, allegedly fathering 40 kids. He also used the old 'painting' trick to get young tarts to strip off and let him ogle them:
"Painting from life, Freud was apt to spend a great deal of time with one subject, and demanded the model's presence even while working on subsidiary elements. A nude completed in 2007 required sixteen months of work, with the model posing all but four evenings during that time; with each session averaging five hours, the painting took approximately 2,400 hours to complete."
Seems like good drills to me, paid large amounts of cash to stare at naked tarts and then knock up a picture (and the tart).
