Loony Left MP refuses to thank Armed Forces and accuses them of preying on vulnerable teens

Loony Left Labour MP Beth Winter refused to add her name to the Defence Select Cttte motion in thanks to the armed forces for their support during Covid, instead going on a nutty rant about the forces "targetting vulnerable teens" from her constituency in their recruitment drives:

"“Before I begin I do have to beg to differ with the comments regarding the armed forces… yes the armed forces make a vital contribution, but any recruits of young people must be managed carefully and it must be an informed choice for young people… a lot of young people enter the armed forces not through choice but through lack of opportunities in the community so I do beg to differ on that point”"

Apology Demanded After Labour MP Suggests Armed Forces "Prey on Vulnerable Children to Hit Recruitment Targets" - Guido Fawkes (order-order.com)

I have to wonder what a warped world view would make you think that the armed forces don't provide informed choice before any young adult signs up, that it is a bad thing to join up, that there is something inherently wrong about the forces being a positive career choice for anyone struggling to find a a job in civvy street, and in any case, her comments were utterly irrelevant to the topic of the debate.

I would have thought the youth of The Cynon valley would be clamouring to get out of there.

Well.... Back in 79, that shilling in the bottom of the pint that bloke bought me.. Then dragged of to Raleigh.. ;)
AD 79 or BC 79??? Just to clear up any confusion :)

I think what Beth Winter is saying is that they should stay put and be that caricature of the romanticised poor that the left cling on to, accept their lot in life, and be grateful for the handouts she decides should be their lot.

I wonder what the Cynon Valley Party has to say about her remarks :)

She's horribly (possibly willfully) misinformed about Armed Forces recruitment, but its another bit of Guido clickbait with the outrage headline, as they even quote her, "yes the armed forces make a vital contribution".

And the fecking Tories closed all the pits ...

Exactly this. Labour do not want people to better themselves. They want an ignorant, dependent underclass that will not rise up against the totalitarian Socialist rule that Labour want to enact.

Forgive gentle correction, but it was the Welsh Affairs Select Cttee rather than Defence. We’d be hearing about the furious row with Generalissimo Marc Francois-Scuttle 11+ and Bar which had ensued following her remarks, otherwise (now he appears to be out of purdah...)

Its a free country, she has the right to chose who she supports, or otherwise.

Just because we have a vested interest in HM Armed Forces does not mean that there should be some kind of mandated requirement for everyone to think as we do.

This isn't North Korea.

ETA this rather obvious observation has actually triggered a couple of Dumb reactions, which is ironic, really.

“Every one is out of work because there’s no jobs here since Maggie shut the pits”. Hmm... Chinese takeaway, Indian restaurant, Pakistani corner shop, Turkish barber, Polish plumber, Albanian nail bar, Italian pizzeria, Syrian car wash... common link? An ärse not being sat on...
Join up and get a free ticket out? Nah, evil tories exploiting the youth...

edit: my neighbour got chucked out of school for dissent. He joined up and spent his whole National Service in the Education Centre getting O levels (and playing rugby).
exploited indeed.

Agreed society isn't all about the armed forces their existence is to ensure people like poets, artists, ballet dancers and even financial advisors can sleep safely in their beds knowing Kev turns up every Tuesday night (not for the bounty) and Baz can't be trusted to cook in his own room for their benefit.

and reopen the pits, condemning a significant proportion of the working population to an early death. After all, I'm sure she thinks that's what they want.

exploited indeed.

Back in 1968 my old man (son of a Miner and he had four sisters) was working in a Tile Factory on the Bridgend Industrial Estate aged 17 and a half, he decided to join the Army to get away from it all, which he did and he never looked back even though he earned more money working in the Tile Factory than he did in the Army at the time.

He never felt being "exploited" by the Armed Forces Recruiting Teams. He made that decision of his own free will. Also he didn't agree with National Service.

Furthermore my mother joined the W.R.A.C. in 1970 because she couldn't stand living at home anymore.....she too made a conscience decision to join up without any pressure from the Armed Forces Recruiting Teams.

Jolly good.
