Long Weekend in Normandie - Places to kip?

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Will be spending a long weekend with an old friend and comrade in Normandy in Sep, just visiting the places, monuments, the usual stuff.

Probably start in the east (Sword/Juno/Gold move on Omaha. Pointe du Hoc / Utah), 3 days, half a day for driving there and back.

Just wondering if anyone had any B&B's or other useful budget places where two lads could kip. Happy to bring the sleeping bags but too old for sleeping in a tent...

  2. Formule1
Cheap and cheerful, each room has a double with a single bunk aboe type arrangement, Bog's and showers down the corridor but good.
They're all over the place, usually on the outskirts of town, you can check in anytime of night (provided there is space obviously) by using the machine at the door, looks like a cash machine and give you a print out with door code and room number.

Cheap hotel Formule 1 - Book hotel at a reasonable price[ppc-for-mar-goo-uk-en-exa-sear-bp-cen]-[for]-S-[{keyword}]&xtdt=21370682

I used them all the way through Normandy a few years ago and they do the trip nicely.
  3. There is a budget Mercure hotel near Port en Bessin, which puts you right in the middle of the beaches, and about a mile above the port, which boasts one of the finest fish restaurants in Northern France, alternately etap/formule1 or Campanile hotels are good cheap, and serve a breakfast.
  4. Thanks lads, will go through it all!
  5. Also try the BB Hotel chain. Slightly more expensive then Formula 1 but worth it imo. Same booking procedure so as long as you have the same CC you booked it with you can arrive any time day or night.

Also worth trying the Logis de france website for excellent quality accom.

Don't forget laterooms.com for last minute bargains too.
