I know the OP was about rental but seeing Valencia mentioned did ring an alarm if anyone's looking to buy there, any of the expats know what the land grab situation is like these days? I did hear that other regions were looking to take similar stands.
With the talk of ferries into Santander then that NW coast is worth looking at, San Sebastian and Bilbao, great food, wild country and some property bargains last time I looked. I would echo Malaga, I love the place. Great food again, really well run marina, good social scene and some bargain properties again. If i didn't spend all my spare cash on boats I would have bought a place there.
The missus and I did look on Rightmove for properties for sale in Valencia (to be nosy) and it seems that you get lots for your money. Buying won't be for us though as we want to ensure that we've got the ability to move to different parts should our circumstances change.
That's an interesting point on the land grab issue. It probably won't come as a surprise to you that I wasn't aware
