London - Accomodation

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I'm a member of the Canadian infantry and I am traveling to the UK in February to visit my family in High Wycombe. As I have never been, I would like to take a few days to visit London. One of the guys in my regiment said that he thought that there was some sort of military barrack-esq installation within London where commonwealth soldiers can stay for a slight fee. Is he right or am I just being led astray? Also, do you recommend any musuems etc... in the area?

    Thanks

  2. I can't answer your accommodation question, but as for museums, there's the Imperial War Museum and the National Army Museum for a start - if you're interested in other things, post what they are and we'll probably have a museum for it!

  3. You could try here:- http://www.ujclub.co.uk/
and just a short walk away is this:- http://london.iwm.org.uk/
    or here :- http://www.national-army-museum.ac.uk/
Plus at South Kensington, you have the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum and nearby to Holborn ( not too far from the UJC) is the British Museum. Hope this helps.

  4. I think the Victory Services Club at Marble Arch offer accommodation to overseas military personnel. They are affiliated to a club in Canada so I figure there's a good chance you will be able to book with them.

Edit - Beat me to it!

  5. As you can see there is lots of places to stay in London but then again Wycombe is not that far from London. The memsahib hails from that part and she tells me that it takes less than an hour to travel into London.

  6. Thanks alot guys, I can't wait to visit and now I have a place to stay! Look forward to hopefully working with you guys in the ghan.

    Cheers from Canada
